Lots of issues at the post, so you get lots of calls? Few issues, so that you don't? Some posts still utilize MPs for LE patrols, and some have moved to the DoD Police model (which I disagree with, as an MP). Give me more info and I'll try to help. Are you in training? How far along? Do you already have an assigned Post after training? If the answer to any of the above questions is yes, it is probably too late to make changes. You might get a nice duty station (geographically) but maybe the unit isn’t that great (i.e. poor leadership, minimal chance for schools, overworked.) Or you go somewhere like Bragg or Campbell where there’s usually a couple opportunities for schools (BLC, Airborne, Air Assault, SRT, DVIT, etc.)

From my experience, there’s no “perfect” duty station. Just remember, you have to give a little to get a little. You want something good from the Army, you have to give the Army something it wants. Show that you’re a team player by volunteering for details, exercises, and whatever else to show your leadership you’re a team player. This gives you a better chance of having your name come up when they need names for schools or desireable (which you’ll figure out after a couple years) duty stations become available. And even Germany and Korea you’ll stil do road work, there’s just a bigger chance you’ll also do a lot of field. But any of the odd country’s like Belgium, France, Italy, etc. you’ll do the road. when it comes to state side, id just pick a location you like, because what’s most likely gonna happen is the battalion will rotate its company’s, one does road, one does field, and so on. Just pick a place you like geographical and roll with it. Personally, I’m out of Ft. Riley and I like it quite a bit. Worked the road and the gates. At the time there were a mix of DoD police and MP's working together. Easy post to work, quiet a lot of the time, not a lot of calls. Someone said it was the "best kept secret of duty stations." I don't know how true that is, depending on what you expect out of your time in, but I enjoyed it there. It's also a beautiful area, right on the Chesapeake Bay. Good luck to you wherever you go. Some use DOD for the LE some use just 31B. All places you will work it depends on how much and the instillation you are at. I was at Bragg and Lewis yrs ago and both were busy. Now if you are also referring to amenities that the installation has on and off post that will be up for debt.
