Reading the paper this morning and there was yet another article on a hit-and-run traffic fatality. It seems like hardly a week goes by without seeing or hearing about similar accidents, although fortunately they do not all involve fatalities. I know we are notorious for bad drivers in Florida, but is this something going on all over the country and what can possibly be going on in the mind of drivers who drive away from an accident?

That's true and it pertains to both drivers and pedestrians. Also; 1. People who walk on the road wearing dark clothing because God forbid they wear something in a color that can be seen at night; 2. The advent of laws that say a motorist must stop for people in a marked or unmarked crosswalk has led to a mindset in a significant portion of the walking population who think that a law will protect them when they walk into traffic, except when it comes down to a collision between them and a vehicle the vehicle will always win, so that attitude needs to be corrected before it gets permanently corrected; 3. failure of pedestrians to be able to survey the road to see how fast a vehicle is approaching and acting accordingly, it's called situational awareness.

It's not just the driver who is at fault 100% of the time.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - I bet some drivers were drunk, and the others lack values and drive off.

PO1 John Johnson - Some of the younger drivers don't understand they need to be the safest drivers that they can be. They often take unnecessary risks and have feelings of invincibility. I gave my son who was 17 a personality test. He tested as a high risk taker. Sure enough on the first day of driving he gets into an accident with a school bus. Some folks think they have to experience something to be true, instead of logically deriving the truth.
