What's it like for a 91B wheeled vehicle mechanic at Fort Campbell?

You can expect to have all 4 seasons. It will be cold 25-40F in the winter and a muggy upper 80s-low 90s in the summer. As a junior Soldier mechanic you can expect to spend your workdays in the motorpool. It's been many years since active duty, but I imagine there will be weekly maintenance periods (motor stables) where the vehicle operators will do their preventative maintenance (PCMS). Some units rotate their platoons on different days, some do the entire unit on the same day.

You will probably be assigned a vehicle maintenance project under the supervision of your team or squad leader who will work with you as you tear down and do more thorough maintenance on vehicles on a periodic basis.

I don't know what kind of unit you will be assigned to, so I can't begin to guess how much time you will spend in the field. If you support the 101st you could learn to love the field.

Be ready for the weather brother. I was there when we had a 67 degree temp shift in a 24 hour period. And the entire division was in the field for a war games exercise.... This happened in late 1983. And it rained, sleeted, hailed, and snowed all on that day.... Lots of fun.

Hopkinsville/Clarksville are nice cities. Nashville is about an hour away. It is a posting that can be a lot of fun. Enjoy brother.

Still get a decent amount of field time being a mobile mechanic. You spend your day at the motorpool QAQCing and parts replacing. Air assault is almost mandatory. You have a lot of school opportunity. In garrison your days are pretty short. Especially since you don't do 24 hour ops on legacy vics.

At knox it was a soup sandwich and I was a glorified oil changer lol nothing overly great but it paid the bills and was fun working with the dudes I was with.

You will Lear most new operators don't know much on doing PM checked and you may feel like you have to hold their hand to get PM checkes done but the more eperinced ones can do it fine and tell you most of what is wrong with their vehicle or what needs fixed you love it there take advantage of any schools you can take for trucks there they offer a lot often

It really depends on the unit you go to. Expect to go to Air Assault within the first couple months, do a lot of good PRT, and work a good amount. As a 91B you will be working a lot in most places you go. Ft. Campbell is a beautiful place and the people are really friendly, and a lot of unit pride.

I am currently at Fort Campbell. I am not part of the 101st though. I am in the Air Defense unit there and haven't done my job in about 5 months, I am a 91b as well. Instead now I am a 14p for deployment coming soon. Fort Campbell is nice. Also nice surrounding towns.

Fort Campbell is a nice place Air ASSAULT while tuff in phase 2 is still a vacation from the motorpool. And yes they love to run and ruck.
