When is been in, I'd had a chance at one point, with one systems program ofc (SPO) group, to have gone to Germany, I switched, I had reasons at the time, I just often wished I'd have been able to go there, which would've been part of assigned stuff,to have at least visited the county, even if not necessarily that city, per se...oh, well...

I don't know what your job or barracks will be like, but plan out a few weekends, buddy up and take some train trips to see Trier, Heidelberg, Stuttgart, Worms and Munich.
You'll probably add a few more cities to that once you get there.

ITT also runs some tours, some of those work out, some don't.

Depends on the unit. They have MI, AVN, Air Force, and Marines there. The post itself is split into a few different areas. There's the main post (airstrip), the housing area, and the housing area with the PX/commissary/schools (about 5-15 minutes apart traffic depending). Then there's the training areas to include the ranges (about 30-40 minutes away). Single Soldier living in barracks will be housed on the airstrip base. Soldier with dependents will be housed at one of the other locations.
If you plan on bringing a vehicle, make sure you pass your test, and make sure your vehicle will meet an inspection. If you plan on getting a vehicle there, from someone leaving, use a local insurance as opposed to something from USAA as you'll get better rates. The gym is good, the clothing and sales is small, and the main post itself is small.
Unless they've changed things, there's a 4 day every month to compensate for being OCONUS. Take SGM McCloud's advice and travel when you can. Wiesbaden proper and Mainz have a lot to see, and have a good amount of history. Frankfurt is about 20 minutes away. There's a ton of opportunities available while there, to many to list here. There are a ton of good places to eat in the area as well, and even the ones that aren't up on English you can say enough to get the right meal.

You'll enjoy it, even if you're married or not. Learn the language, you'll go further knowing how to converse with the local nationals in their native tongue. Be sure to travel, a lot. No need to take leave, you'll get plenty of 4day weekends. DO NOT GET A DUI, you'll ruin your career. Many before you have already done so. Taxi, train, and bus systems are the best. Have fun!
