As the movers are coming the following week (22-26 June), the only thing I want is a nice day to accomplish anything that I need to do....and some time to have a nice cold beer. Well wishes from my 14 y/o daughter and wife also welcome.

I want to know that they didn't just give me a hug because it was father's day, but because I am a great father.
I want to earn their respect, and be worthy of their love.
I want to show the boys how to be a man, and my daughter what she should expect and demand.
I want them to follow me around, and help daddy with fixing things.
I want them to love and respect their mother as much as I do.
I want to dance with my little girl, and watch Frozen for the 84th time.
I want my baby boy to fall asleep laying on me, like he did when he was a newborn.
I want to sit on the floor with my 8 year old son, and engage in a pitched battle between rival plastic dinosaur clans.
I want to truthfully be able to tell them "no" when the big, brown, earnest eyes plaintively ask me if the Army will ever send me away again.

That would be a good day.

Update - Last Sunday morning, Father's Day 2015, my two girls jumped into bed with me and gave me the gift (see pic below). Then they each took turns reading the following poem by Marsha Newman:

Tall and strong and handsome —
My Dad, my hero!
He is the one who carries me to bed
At night and tucks me in.

A tiny kiss on the nose,
A brush of my hair,
A final lingering look of love
And we part until tomorrow.
My hero Dad has broad shoulders,
Strong hands, and feet big enough
To waltz me around the world.

Am I his girl? He asks with a tipsy whirl.
“Always and forever,” I reply.
Then with a chuckle
And a distant look in his eye,
He pulls me close,
His cheek pressed against my hair.
“One day there'll be another,” he whispers
“Far more now we'll waltz
To the end of tomorrow,
Your hand in mine, Princess,
Your feet on mine, Toe Dancing.”
