What’s the best way to approach branch about an assignment request?

Two part question. What’s the best way to approach branch for an assignment request? Does anyone have any experience with our branch manager? Did he help you out? And What is it like for a 91B in Fort Sam Houston? Whats the day to day like, what’s training like? Anyone have any insight for a mechanic in Fort Sam Houston?

I think most branch managers are the same, honestly. They talk to so many people on any given day that they generally come across pretty salty and disgruntled. Give them the bottom line up from: "This is where I'd like to go and this is why." Then ask what kind of timeline you need to make it happen. I'm not a 91B, but I've never heard an ill word spoken of Fort Sam. If you're single, it's heaven. If you're married, your wife will never want to leave. In my experience, the easiest places for 91Bs to get are places like Bragg and Campbell. We can't get enough of y'all. Good luck!

This is not your everyday installation. It's mainly run by the Air Force. It takes so much time to get regular admin stuff done and the 502nd (main hub of all) will not do anything thing with paperwork, without it going through your unit S-1, and if you S-1 sucks, then you will have to either wait, or make it happen yourself. I'm married and no desire to get in trouble here, but Soldiers get in trouble because they mess with the students, or they are (too hard.. whatever that is) on the students. I been here 3 years and am laving in 3 weeks. It's time to go. IJS
