If you have the scores, then there are no issues, and once a you re-up your clearance is processed; your unit S2 has a justification to get to work on it. Recently there was a decision stating ALL SMs will have to apply at minimum for a secret. Talk to your Career Counselor is Step 1, Step 2 he will generate the template and it’ll give the S2 the justification to put the investigation IN for you. Use your GI bill, then be a civilian employee, either contractor or DOD. You get paid more and don't have to go to war. I know a couple of kids who are doing just that and they work happily ever after... In the meantime, you can take correspondence courses and self-taught. Everything that you ever want to know and do can be found online, especially on YouTube. Do your best to get the clearance and if they don’t let you reclass , consider the reserves. You can always go IRR after ETSing and work with a Reserve Career Counselor until you can find the unit/MOS you want. They will ask for the reason of your request. You can either tell them you want to re-class for that MOS, or that you intend to become a WO. This is how I got my clearance. Unless you have the luckiest day of your life the mos changes from understrength. Ive only see 1 91b reclass to medical in the 5 years ive been in. Get your clearance before you get out if you can, take advantage of taking IT certifications if possible through your education center.
