I find that you should have a sturdy shoe that can handle movements laterally as well as support your weight during isometric movements and sudden switches from one position to another. A good cross training shoe is ideal, especially if you have a regimen that is similar to the current trend of cross-fit style workouts or mixtures of high intensity workouts with weight training. Get a different, light weight running shoe for running and only for running.

I've had a cross trainer before. All I remember is it wasn't great for basketball, though. This was a good while ago. Great advice, SFC.

ASICS give you the arch support you'll need....Maybe "gels" so you don't end up with flat feet

This question is six years old now, and these days we don't see those weight lifting shoes around much anymore. Nowadays, there seems to be this trend of squatting barefoot. Not sure where that came from, or why.

The idea is to remove the cushion from shoe soles entirely. I've heard hardcore gym rats use Converse Chucks. I prefer a Black-owned business with a similar style.
