Even though I’m a cadet and that doesn’t count as service time, I learned that rank does not beat experience. Your rank and pay might be higher up on the totem pole, but there’s never a circumstance that you can’t learn from those who have done what you wish you could.

Do volunteer for any deployment or detail that comes up, get all the qualifications you can and when overseas take in the culture of where you are.

Why, deployiments make for great long lasting friendships and memories, they are great for Evals and it makes you more knowledgeable all around. Work details will teach you a how to lead as well as follow. Qualifications will get you out of crappy details and working parties, great for Evals and makes you a better sailor. Taking on the local culture will always teach you something, make you a better person and a great ambassador for yourself, the Navy and the country
