Used basic when I was in High School. We messed with the teacher by setting the screen to black type on a black screen and telling him it was broken. Not polite.

Windows 2.0 was the first version of MS Windows that I used. MS-DOS 1.x and Zenith Z-DOS 1.x were the first versions of MS DOS that I used.

I believe the first versions of MS-DOS I used was MS-DOS 1.x in the late 1980's. I am fairly certain that Windows 2.0 was the first version of Windows I used. I used these OS on military owned systems. My first PC used a Windows 95 system.

I've been plugged in from a very early age, so MS-DOS 1.x. I think I started on Windows 2.0, but my earliest solid memory that had a version number attached is 3.1 for Work Groups, because I helped set up an office network using it.

For the age, Windows was pretty revolutionary. What I don't miss is needing to run winsock to open a browser TCP/IP connection.

It's crazy looking at that slideshow. You forget just how much has changed until you're staring at it.

All though my first computer was an apple II-e I did use PC-DOS as well back in the late 80's. M$ tried to kill the command line interface for a while but now it is back in full force with power shell. I probably use the command prompt a dozen times a day at work on average.

For Most things now I like to run Linux Mint, it is both part of what is old and new. Use of the Konsole is required if you want to do many modifications. The Hacker know as the Th3 Je5ster is coming out with his own take on linux in the near future, it will be my next OS.

haha forget Windows, I was up and running back in the FORTRAN, COBOL, PASCAL days.

DOS, LOGO, BASIC all came years later. Never mind Windows.

I think I dated myself just a little bit.

I started using computers in 1981 by 1983 we had TRS (we lovingly called them 'Trash') Model 3 & 4 (my Senior year in HS) TRS-DOS and LS-DOS. In college at Louisville it was DEC- VAX (VMS) and ISPF-TSO (IBM mainframe), BSD or Berkley Unix, and MS-DOS 3.0 to 5.0 being the last DOS version when Windows 3.1 for workgroups being a big hit.
I loved line commands and straight linear scripting verses, VI or column based compile and link.

Windows 10 still has many bugs that need to be worked out. The best version was XP professional. I've used Windows all back to ver 3.0

I started out prior to MS-DOS. We had FORTRAN but I was learning Object Core Programming in college. Our computer had a whopping 1K of memory (wire wound around toroids). Windows started out as the first Graphical User Interface (GUI). We used to have to type in what we wanted using shorthand like "cd" for change directory, "del" for delete, etc.. With a mouse you could point and shoot what you wanted for programs. It was tough using windows as it barely worked on a 386SX machine. I upgraded my Toshiba 3200 gas plasma portable from 286 to do it. However all Windows did was point to the DOS programs. My hard drive was the limiter with 20MB which was the equivalent to 15 floppys at the time.
That said, I flew everywhere with that machine and a Diconix portable ink jet. As the R-2 I was able to do so much more work. I still have the Toshiba and it still runs. I just have to change out the CMOS battery every 7 years or so.

I've been doing what I do for a looooong time. The oldest operating system I've used isn't Windows...it's the TI 99/4A or TRS-80 operating system....

I actually started in the AF in comms using MOD40/DSTE, not sure if there is an official OS for that. Then PC's with MSDOS 1.x and before Office, every thing was either command line or stand alone apps, like Lotus 123 (spreed sheet), Word Star and DEC PDP 11/84 running DEC OS.

I'm also pretty sure I used Windows 1.0 in high school, and later 3.0 and 3.1 in the Navy before I switched over to IT and started working with NT. Then on to 2000, XP, and 7. Let's also not forget the various flavors of Windows Server.
I'm currently running 8.1 on my personal laptop but about to install 10.

Oldest Windows OS was Windows 1.0, but used MS-Dos before that. You still had to know DOS to really use Windows, back in the day!

I was using DR DOS before MS cloned it and did the 10% change to get away with it . And Geo Works windows before MS bought it to make windows 95 before MS had windows 1.0 . Windows was first created by Xerox long before MS was even a company.

My first owned computer was an Apple IIC......! I switched over to MS-DOS when I was in college (early 90's). I've used every iteration of Windows since then.

I still have a XP machine creeping along. I keep it in XP config so I can play some older games that I modded out (which wont' work with newer OS).

I started out using DOS 5.0. I remember having to set up batch files just to run games, which is the only thing I used a computer for until social media came along.
