What’s the probability of remaining at a duty station/assignment after your year of a compassionate reassignment?

Currently slotted against MTOE slot, after getting compassionate reassignment from Drum to Bragg. Currently at 17 years and would love to retire from Bragg. I have battalion S3 experience and am battle staff and SPO II trained so I can’t see why I would leave. Should I lean forward in the foxhole to be proactive or expect to be PCS’d after my years up? Any and all feedback is welcomed.

I think that your best option is to probably just get in touch with branch. I'm sure that they can find someplace for you at Bragg.

I'd try and find my own slot before hitting up branch. Yes, branch has to fill slots, but, they also like to move people around. Find a slot for yourself, get the connections in place and THEN tell branch you have a solution to a problem they didn't even know they had. If someone comes to me with a solution to a problem before I know about the problem, 9/10 I'll take that solution.

Find a unit on Bragg that you know has your MOS. Get on the CSM's calendar and request a Paragraph, Position, and line number.

Talk to the CoC, they can work on letting you stay at Bragg, if they have open slots.

Your compassionate only stabilizes you there through the end date. HRC still has to comply with time on station requirements prior to PCSing you. As long as you're holding a valid requisition there is no reason to move you from a CONUS assignment at an MTOE unit, especially if it is a BCT.
Chances are, unless you made the list or request recruiting, you aren't even eligible to move yet.

This is exactly what happened to me back in 1983. My oldest son was due follow-on heart surgery therefore we were compassionately reassigned to a center that could do the complicated surgery. The surgery was not done as expected and the need still existed. I was fortunate to be slotted in an active duty slot in the G4 of a reserve division. He had his surgery a year into this assignment.

Talk to your CSM. And submit your extension with S1. Only having 3 years left will work in your favor. Be proactive and fight for what you want.

Leaning forward is always best....do the leg work...no pun intended...and make it easier to Keep you than let you go. But being Promotable they may not have a slot for you.
