What's your best "work smarter, not harder" story? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/what-s-your-best-work-smarter-not-harder-story

STORY TIME: A toothpaste manufacturing company was having an issue with it's supply lines. Every now and then a toothpaste tube wouldn't come through in time to be put into a box. This caused some customers to received empty packages. The company hired a consultant for $150,000. The consultant drafted an elaborate addition to the supply chain where the box was weighed, the line was stopped, and someone manually removed the empty box. This change cost $500,000 to build. For the first few weeks the system was working fine: the alarm would sound when a package w/o enough weight came through the line stopped, and the guy pulled the box off.

A few weeks later a new person rotated into the position of Removal. The reports of the empty alarms going off went to 0. This was good because the line wasn't stopping, but the manager was suspicious. When the manager investigated he found that the Lazy Guy who took over got tired of standing up, removing the box, and restarting the line.

He had set up a fan ahead of the weighing station which blew empty boxes off the line and into a bin. In my boat shop, we only have a couple of ratchets in varying drives, and a whole lot of wrenches, as well as an air gun to assist when we are removing engines.

Well, this one time, our air compressor was out, so we couldn't use the air gun to take out the mounting bolts. This one Sailor decided to only grab a couple of wrenches to remove the bolts, taking an insanely long time to take off just one bolt, while we have a perfectly good... Well, decent... Ratchet in the toolbox.
