Able to witness the mighty Iowa in NYC in July 4th 1986 and in New Orleans in Feb 1989 for a liberty call. This was less than two months before the turret explosion. Took the older picture aboard USCGC Gallatin in NY harbor as part of the OpSail86 Statue of Liberty celebration. Gallatin served as the parade command platform. I took the newer photo as part of a security detail aboard a 41ft utility boat escorting the battleship from Southwest Pass to downtown New Orleans.
