What's your favorite "political" or "military cartoon?"

So, maybe you had one cut out and posted in your workspace, on your refrigerator, garage, or even in your home office. Maybe it reminded you of a situation or past event; some are works of art in their own right, some are astute military or political commentary, and others are entertaining or just plain fun. Some may speak to a particular point in history, or accurately reflect your thoughts or service. Whatever 'it' is please feel free to share your favorites, and if you can't find the one you're looking for, no problem... just provide your best description, and we'll all help locate it! It could've been an old classic, something more realistic or modern, a non-military comic that addressed military subject matter/somehow relatable to the military experience, or something different altogether or that no one's seen before. I came across a stack of those little maintenance booklets from the 70's and 80's (you know the ones in the arms room) And WOW talk about T&A EO violation of an Army Pub. they had some pretty funny stuff in them too

I had the great pleasure of meeting Mort Walker, the creator of "Beetle Bailey", back when his museum, The Museum of Cartoon Art, was open in Boca Raton Florida back in 1996.

It was somewhat intimidating meeting a legendary cartoonist whose weekly and Sunday strips I had read ever since I was a "li'l" boy growing up in New Jersey.

I did ask him a question though, after recently ETS'ing from the Army and with past experiences of dealing with Second Lieutenants, I had asked him where he got the inspiration of Lt. Fuzz. His answer was that Lt. Fuzz was based on his own personal experiences as a young Lieutenant. Pretty cool stuff!

Sir, when I think cartoon, I think TV show. So, in that case, the only one I know of at the top of my head is Pop Eye. And he's the reason I eat spinach. In fact, every time I see a can of spinach or carrots, ( from the movie with Robin Williams) my mind says it the way he does...

Had this hanging in my office awhile. This one only had a picture of a hot air balloon so many people mistook it for one of those motivational posters before reading it. Was a few months before a few officers actually read it and got a laugh.

A man was flying a hot air balloon and realized that he was lost. He reduced his height and spotted a man down below. He lowered the balloon further and shouted "Excuse me, can you help me? I made a promise to meet someone a half hour ago, but I don't know where the hell I am."

The man below said, "Yes, you're in a hot air balloon, hovering approximately 30 feet off this field. You're between 40 and 42 degrees north latitude and between 58 and 60 degrees west longitude."

"I say, you must be an NCO," said the balloonist.

"I am ", replied the NCO, "How did you know?"

"Well," said the balloonist, "Everything you told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to do with this information and the fact is, I'm still bloody lost and I'm still going to be late."

"You must be an officer!", said the NCO.

"I am", replied the surprised balloonist, "How did you know that?"

"Well," said the NCO, "You don't know where you are or where you are going. You've made a promise to someone that you can't keep and you expect me to solve all your problems. The fact is you're in exactly the same position you were in before you told me your problems, but now it's somehow my fault."

the anime Full Metal Panic. the show is about a 17year old military/combat prodigy assigned to be a bodyguard for some vip. the show is pretty boring till about episode 4 or 5 when the main character starts yelling and a movie screen during a war film saying stuff like "THATS NOT HOW IT DONE" and "YOUR FORMATIONS ARE ALL WRONG" and other funny stuff. after that scene, the show gets a whole lot better and funnier :)

I will say this, there really has not been any fun military cartoons from the Air Force or the Navy. On the political side, I guess Doonsbury.

Air Force Blues was probably my favorite while it was out in force a few years ago. You can still find the author's work in the AF Times or on the RAF Mildenhall site (under the name Box-D Blues).

Terminal Lance is probably a close second. My wife followed CrewDogs pretty closely.

Col Private RallyPoint Member, Beetle Bailey has always been my favorite.
However, I would think we'd be remiss without an homage to Bill Mauldin. William Henry "Bill" Mauldin was an American editorial cartoonist who won two Pulitzer Prizes for his work during WWII. He was most famous for his cartoons depicting American soldiers, as represented by his undisciplined characters "Willie and Joe". Mauldin was a sergeant in the U.S. Army, and received the Purple Heart and the Legion of Merit.
General George S. Patton disliked Mauldin intensely, and when they finally met, Patton stated, "I don't know what you think you're trying to do, but the krauts ought to pin a medal on you for helping them mess up discipline for us."
