Our brigade FSO was a former Marine, very tough but also very afraid of the big feral pigs that wandered all over our OP. When he visited our OP he normally would remain on the hill until the next morning. His driver would inevitably park the truck between the area where we would get our evening hots and the bunker where we set up operations. Mysteriously, pieces of fruit never made it to the bunker, but always ended up rolling underneath his truck. We would wake up to the sounds of boars trying to get to the fruit under the truck and the Major cussing and yelling at his driver to wake up and chase the pigs away. During the flight to the DZ he pulls it out and pretends to puke, he then hands it to Sgt who pulls out a spoon and eats it. Yep, about every one filled their barf bag. Static line and barf bag in hand they exit bombing the DZ with barf bags.

2 I put a deck of cards on a rat trap in the desk drawer of this 76L E-3, tied a piece of 550 filler on the trigger and tapped it to the top inside of the drawer. He comes to work and I ask to borrow a marker. He opens the drawer and cards fly in his face. He jumps back and sticks to the wall for like 2 seconds.

3 Same 76L gets a fake ID so we go to a bar in Fayetteville, he gets piss drunk. Next morning my door about comes of the hinge, with a very large and angry Dana Duff pounding on it. Erny you got that fool drunk and he pissed in my wall locker, he yelled for about 15 minutes. Later that day I get picked up and thrown by Duff on a pile of M -1950 weapons cases. Phone cats were manually rung between switchboards. Naples switchboard tells me “On circuit IT5201 Ankara cannot heat us.” I jack in and send a ring to the other end, Ankara Turkey. The line is picked up and I hear”Hallo, Ankara” I asked the operator “Can yo hear me?” She answers “No.” I did several tests on the line, talking with the operator. It was so comical that I patched the line in to put tunnel’s PA system. A crowd gathered in my doorway as people just had to hear this little old lady talking with me while insisting she couldn’t hear me.
