I’ve struggled with mental health issues for quite some time, and didn’t even realize I did until a few years ago. Doing things like hiking or fishing have me some “clarity”, but with more physical pain, I had to figure out something else. I started working in my wood shop, and making American flags for some buddies of mine. When I’m in the shop, I detach from issues for a little while and organize my thoughts, sometimes without even realizing it.

I have a Koi pond that I just sit by and watch the fish swim-takes away all the stress from the day.

Jiu jitsu has been my go to for the past 8ish years and I can't recommend it enough. Gives you the physical outlet and keeps your body moving.

My go-to method for mental health would have to be reading a book. Thrillers are my absolute favorite genre! Reading allows you be somewhere else and is great for your mind that’s why I think it’s my perfect way to relax and keep my mind at ease!

I am lucky enough to have several avenues to pursue. My number one that is always available is going to our home theater and watching an entertaining movie that doesn't require any thought. At times I burden a long-time friend with a conversation that moves my thoughts to a neutral space. Thirdly jumping in the pool and swimming for 20-30 minutes. The exhaustion tends to change the current state of mind.

Gardening does it for me. There is nothing better than my hands in the soil, and creating beauty. Every time I come home, leave the house, or walk my property I am lifted by the knowledge of the hard work I did to create something that lives and breathes with such beauty and purpose. In the hard times I do the hard work, and in the good times I enjoy the rewards.
