What's your military/national-holiday tradition or routine?

Over the years, how have you and your family recognized those holidays w/ military or national significance? Some folks may volunteer, attend events or parades together, while others may stay closer to home, relax, recharge, and reflect together. During this time there's often military-related movie marathons and documentaries on, which ones do you tune-in to? Does your family have an interesting or unique tradition? Perhaps you attend annual parades or watch the television coverage, or have patriotic or military-themed playlists on in the background... if so, what significance does this have for you and your family? Well, this should be a great discussion, and I'm sure we'll all learn a thing-or-two about military history and each other in the process. My first choice is always Das Boot. It's a long one but such a great film. You can never go wrong with the classics, Bridge on the River Kwai, Midway, Tora Tora Tora, etc.

"We Were Soldiers" One of my all time favorite war movies. Also "Flags of Our Fathers".

As you can see by my profile, I march either old glory or the legion post flag in Morrisville Vermont's parades. This has become my passion.

On June 6th, we watch the Sands of Iwo Jima. On November 10th, we watch The D.I. On Veterans day, I avoid people, all well-meaning, who want to "thank me for my service". On Memorial Day, I think about my absent comrades in arms. On thw 4th of July, I celebrate 24 year and counting of being married to a wonderful woman.
