What should I expect at 68A AIT as a prior-service, married student? What might my next duty assignment be?

Reenlisted for 68A biomedical equipment specialist from 91L engineer mechanic I am also airborne and want to know if I'll go on airborne assignment and If I could end up in hospital .

If memory serves, I believe that 68A course is approx 1 year long. I could be mistaken. As for where you will go after AIT.....you could go anywhere that has an MMB or you could go to MEDDAC (hospital). I know that's not exactly a specific answer, but it's the best one I can give.

Unless you are going to a School that requires You to Maintain jump proficiency You will be terminated from Jump status the Last Day of the Month you sign out of the Airborne Unit...
when you get to the Gaining Unit you will go thru a Refresher course... If it requires or has an Airborne Slot...

I could be wrong, but I haven't seen any 68A in airborne units. Maybe group support has something along those lines, but if there is a slot for 68A in an IBCT(A) it would likely be just ONE spot.

There should be a 68a in each of the BSB Medical companies. So that's not many in the 82d, 173d, or 4/25. SOSCOM has some, as well as each group support bn. The regiment may have 1.

Yes I'm a 68A. Training is 42 weeks at fort Sam Houston. You will be able to have your family move with you. You could for sure end up in a hospital. I am in a field unit but I have many friends that are in hospitals.

AIT is tough for most people. It should be a PCS move for you and your family, and they have to realize that you are there for training. Your first assignment should be a hospital, but sometimes not. Not many airborne slots in the MOS, Italy, brag, and SF are the only ones I know of.

Towards the end you can talk to your platoon Sgt and say if you would rather be in a field unit or hospital. They should be able to help with that in closer to course 8. Good luck with course 1 and 2!
