We have Marines, Sailors, Airmen, Soldiers, & Coast Guardsmen...what will we call this new group of warriors?

(Space) Troopers? Can’t say Spacemen, and at least “Troop” doesn’t connotate an already covered Area of Operations (e.g. AIRmen, Sailors (for the sea), etc). Just a thought, feel free to challenge it.

Aeronauts: That said, I do believe, just as in all SciFi shows, that the ranking system should follow that of the U.S. Navy..

Whether it is a waterborne or spaceborne ship, they are still ships so it seems appropriate that the ranking structure should follow our naval traditions.

Army = Armed Ground Force (Soldier)
Navy = Armed Sea/Ocean Force (seaman)
Airforce = Armed Air Force (Airman)
Marines = Supportive Combat Ground/sea for Navy (Marine)
Space Force = Armed Space Force (Galisman)

I thought that "spaceman" seemed way too overused from TV & the movies.

They could call their lower Enlisted "crewman", NCO's Chief; and their officers sir, ma'am or by their rank. Being a Soldier myself, I am might favor Army terminology. However, the space force does seem to have close ties to the Navy. If a combat Force is needed, the Marines would likely be a good addition.

I like Cadet SGT Ali Burianek idea of "Trooper." It's a nice gender neutral term that still sounds military. I'd like the official titles of the grades to be job descriptive. E-1 through E-4 would be the Troopers of the new Service. E-5 through E-9 are supervisors. Warrant Officers are titled as the experts they should be. Officer titles draw from both the Army, Navy and civilian enterprises. Also a split manager/leader track at O-3 allows some officers to be managers (staff officers) and others to be leaders. Formal form of address would follow the Marine Corps model of using the entire title, such as "Senior Master Trooper Smith" or "Senior Commander Jones." The informal forms of address will develop over time. Here's my plan.

It will be the same for any ship. It will have the same rank as the Navy. Due that the ships will be man by sailors and shipmen alike. Just don't over think it. Those canadate's will be only college grade. No one with a H.S diploma will ever get up their.

I’d recommend using the Navy ranks from Petty Officer on up, for reasons many have already stated in the comments. For the lower enlisted, you simply use the Army ranks as they don’t connote a specific mission. Keep in mind that the Army has had a Space Battalion for many years, as well as other services with their contribution to the Space mission. Most of the duties are ground-based. We’re not really talking about a whole lot of actual astronauts here.

Generic term I believe should be crewman, Senior NCO's are Chiefs like the Navy Ranks. E-1 - E-6 are tougher. Maybe specialty and ratings such as Apprentice, Apprentice First class, Senior Apprentice, Journeyman, Senior Specialist and then the Chief ranks.

Just off the top of my head, if it were up to me, I'd start by chucking that gender-neutral PC garbage. Then I would break the force down into space-faring and land-based troops, using ranks similar to the Navy. Space-faring lower enlisteds would start off as Junior Crewman Third, Second and First Class. NCO's would be Senior Crewman Third, Second and First Class, Chief Crewman, Senior Chief Crewman, and Master Chief Crewman. Commission Officers would follow the Navy structure starting at Ensign and continuing up through the Admiral ranks.
Ground-based lower enlisteds would be Junior Technician Third through First Class, NCO's would be Senior Technician Third through First Class, and Chief Technician, Senior Chief Technician, and Master Chief Technician. Commissioned Officers would be the same as for space-going officers.
It's a starter for 10, anyway.

MOST MILITARY TRAINING FOR OFFICERS IS CADET TRAINING. ENLISTED IS STILL BASIC. ONLY AFTER THEIR SPECIALIZED TRAINING DO THEY RECEIVE A DESIGNATION AS THEY WERE TRAINED FOR. THE RANK THEY ARE KNOWN BY HAS TO BE EARNED. IT IS PROPER TO CALL ANY MILITARY PERSON BY THEIR RANK, AS FOR A NAME USA, USAF. USCG, USMC AND USN. WHY NOT USSF. WHAT THEY WOULD END UP BEING CALLED .
