Being a Soldier myself, I am might favor Army terminology. However, the space force does seem to have close ties to the Navy. It's a nice gender neutral term that still sounds military. I'd like the official titles of the grades to be job descriptive. E-1 through E-4 would be the Troopers of the new Service. E-5 through E-9 are supervisors. Warrant Officers are titled as the experts they should be. Officer titles draw from both the Army, Navy and civilian enterprises. Also a split manager/leader track at O-3 allows some officers to be managers (staff officers) and others to be leaders. Formal form of address would follow the Marine Corps model of using the entire title, such as "Senior Master Trooper Smith" or "Senior Commander Jones." The informal forms of address will develop over time. For the lower enlisted, you simply use the Army ranks as they don’t connote a specific mission. Keep in mind that the Army has had a Space Battalion for many years, as well as other services with their contribution to the Space mission. Most of the duties are ground-based. Then I would break the force down into space-faring and land-based troops, using ranks similar to the Navy. Space-faring lower enlisteds would start off as Junior Crewman Third, Second and First Class. NCO's would be Senior Crewman Third, Second and First Class, Chief Crewman, Senior Chief Crewman, and Master Chief Crewman. Commission Officers would follow the Navy structure starting at Ensign and continuing up through the Admiral ranks.<br />Ground-based lower enlisteds would be Junior Technician Third through First Class, NCO's would be Senior Technician Third through First Class, and Chief Technician, Senior Chief Technician, and Master Chief Technician.
