I've read a couple of service memebers posts that sound out of their element and this can give a false idea of what we really experience. That's why we have trouble watching movies related to military themes; we immediately recognize how wrong they are about what we do. As a published author and blogger and military movie buff, I agree. My experience tells me that goals and expectations need to be up front. Define rolls and be prepared to be flexible. Patience is also a virtue, but at a premium when deadlines need to be met and time is short. Everyone needs to check their ego at the door and take nothing personal. The goal is an excellent product, so stay focused on that. The writer is often more art than science and the editor more science than art! The editor should seek to preserve the Author's tone and point of view without sacrificing clarity and efficiency. The writer should seek clarity and efficiency without sacrificing their uniqueness and passion. And of course, writers need to stay in their lane! Best of luck! Hooah!
