I can send a high-performer from any CA unit to Airborne and, of course, everyone from one of the six jump-status CA Bns. Jumpmaster is encouraged once you have 12 jumps from high-performance aircraft. Money has been short lately to send people to DLI, but we are working the issue. Immersion training if you are already a 1/1 is doable now. Battle Staff highly encouraged and required to get your re-up bonus. Yes, to Air Assault, but there are only a few slots a year. Sapper ain't happening unless you are 12 series. Ranger would normally never happen, but I did have the only female USAR candidate last year. And no to HALO. If you need help getting in to a CA unit, send me an email and I will be glad to help.

Thank you Sir! The only school I have so far is Air Assault (EFMB before selection). This is great information and I will definitely let you know if I have any hiccups.

Hi Sir, what if an 38a doesn’t SERE-C? Will they still be able to command a team, or will they be put on a staff role until the school is completed? For example: As an 11a it’s highly encouraged to go to Ranger, in most cases those who are not tabbed rarely are able to take a platoon. Is this relatively similar?

2LT (Join to see) - Don't know where you got the idea that you could not be a platoon leader without a Ranger Tab. EVERYONE gets to be a PL and almost all get to have Company Command regardless of whatever merit badges you earn. SERE-C is one of the least important schools around. Doesn't get you a merit badge and is considered a "fun" school - not sure I would consider it "fun". Your educational requirements and performance are what are going to get you promoted. A promotion system based on merit badges earned would be very poor indeed.

First, I wouldn't pick a career field based solely on a few schools....but, SERE-C and jump master are heavily pushed. RANGER is doable, HALO is a nope, SAPPER, air assault and pathfinder are difficult due to slots. Many other great schools and training are available that don't give you a uniform trinket. SOF medical and SOF engineer courses are easy to get.

I am certainly prepared and still preparing. I will get there. Seems like the appropriate demographic for my family and I. I just want to work with the cream of the crop.

One thing I will say is that it's important to be an outgoing, social person. Yes, this job is about engaging people, whether it be indigenous or throughout different organizations, but also it's about engaging people in your own organization too. It's important that those on your team and in your unit know who you are and what you bring to the table. Teams are only 4 people, so you are 25% of your team. So you can't be that reclusive, weird dude that nobody likes because then nobody would want to work with you. Yeah, I agree that they are the cream of the crop people, but they can be very judgmental, so it's difficult for one to get past that bad first impression in this organization. You might be working with some of the people you meet in CAAS, so make sure you have a good first impression on them too.

Will do Sergeant. I like to think I am an outgoing, social, down-to-earth, and relatable person. Peer-wise, I think we will be on the same level.
