PO3 Phyllis Maynard 7150695

"Bring The Boys Home", by Freda Payne is the song that did it for me. Because of the opportunity to co-host a series about veterans, suicide prevention, PTSD, Depression, and suicidal ideation on WIZS.com Town Talk, I realize that honoring the veterans from that time of war is important because many people supported them being brought back home. The owner John C. Rose has allowed his Talk Show, Town Talk to be a vehicle to honor us veterans and our sacrifices. The show is not only impacting the veteran community, but the First Responder Community, the Essential Worker Community, local communities, and global communities through the Internet. Through the opportunity to produce this series, I have invited veterans and civilians from RallyPoint to be interviewed. Till this day, this powerful song puts me as close to the jungles of Vietnam as I can get.

I am fortunate. When I came home from both Wars, my country welcomed me home with open arms. I was greeted as a hero, because Vietnam Vets made sure America would never disgrace her Veterans again.

This is the video for the song.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAE6Il6OTcs

This article discusses the origin of the sang.
https://www.loudersound.com/features/the-story-behind-the-song-rooster-by-alice-in-chains

Alice In Chains - Rooster (Official HD Video)

Watch the official music video for “Rooster" by Alice In ChainsListen to Alice In Chains: https://aliceinchains.lnk.to/listenYD Subscribe to the official Ali...

Response by SSG Mike Zientek made May 1 at 2022 12:51 PM 2022-05-01T12:51:50-04:00 2022-05-01T12:51:50-04:00 Sgt Frank Sumner 7654329

“Sitting on the dock of the Bay” for me. I didn't get sent to Viet Nam. I turned 18 in 1969 but for the grace of God, I was never drafted. I enlisted in May of 1974. My little brother was in the Peace Movement and marched in the May Day demonstration in DC in 1971.
Somehow the song, "Bring the Boys Home" by Freda Payne is not part of my memory. I just listened to it on YouTube and it still isn't familiar. Of course, in 1971 I was a young married 20-year-old father and husband trying to earn a living. Maybe it just wasn't on the radio stations I listened to. It was being assigned to many crash cleanups and being assigned to many operations. All of which it was up to me to recover and send the bodies home. It was hardest when the bodies had to be recovered in small pieces.
