Get Involved locally and then expand your network. If you are a Veteran then you know we have had the same problems for 30-40yrs and we have just kicked the problem down the road. Both political parties have a known ideology. Veterans have an ideology as well. It's called accomplish the mission. We should all be disgusted at our leaders and their failures which have bankrupted our nation. We should also be the providers of solutions and the manpower to forfill the solution. No one else can fix the myriad of problems that both these political party's have bestowed upon us. But us Veterans can. If we could come together and unify as a enabler of forceful solutions then I think we just might make America great again. I don't accept that premise. America has always been, and continues to be, the greatest country on earth, in my humble opinion. Can it be better? Of course.....there is always room for improvement. The best way to improve America is to get involved in your local community and help improve the lives of those around you. In doing so, you inspire others to follow your example, and they in turn, inspire others......and so on, and so on. Be part of the solution, not part of the problem.....and always take the time to help a child when the opportunity presents itself. That means we don't discriminate against people on the basis of their religion. It means we don't denigrate people based on their race. It means we don't demean women. It means that we don't lie, and we don't tolerate lying from our elected officials. It means we demand accountability from our public officials, both elected and appointed. It means we care about the nation instead of lining our own pocketbooks. Do you want me to continue? We need focus on results, not party affiliation. Don't raise your child to think the same way that you do, but raising them to be resilient, critical thinking adults that make enough money to earn their keep and pay more into the system than the pull out in government resources.
I teach my kids how to get life skills, how to be independent, how to study, how to work for someone else, how to work for yourself, how to organize your time and priorities, how to plan a menu, cook, clean, budget, fix basic items in their life. What characteristics to look for in others. How to reflect (or pray) or for one of my sons who is agnostic, it is identify what is important to him.

My overarching concern since the 1992 election has been the national debt and policies that support economic growth:
If we don't figure out how to turn around this $20 Trillion dollar budget hole that has been developed since the 1970s.
$9 Trillion of it in the last eight years under the last Administration, we will not have any budget choices, it will all be: interest on debt, social security, medicare, administration, defense. Most of the division I have observed runs along ideological and political fault lines. We have lost our ability to compromise, lost our ability to agree to disagree. I sit back and watch both sides of the political and ideological spectrum scream at the other side to compromise but neither are not willing to compromise themselves, yes, I see the left and right do this. I have no answer as to how to reconcile the extreme differences that exist. As veterans, we have lived in harmony with each other regardless of background, race, religion or political ideologies. We did not compromise our individual values and we did not have to give up our individual identity to live in a peaceful co-existence. We had our differences, arguments, and I am sure there have been a few brawls over them, but in the final analysis, that was what we were serving for. Living that example as a civilian, might help to show the rest of the country that even though we are different, we can live together without destroy our unit, which is America.
