What suggestions or advice do you have to help an AGR 92Y trying to get promoted?

I’m sure there are others in my boat. As a E6 AGR 92Y a couple of selection boards have convene but I wasn’t picked up. I feel like I’m stuck at this rank at the moment and need advice and suggestions. I have considered Recruiter, Drill Sergeant, Instructor, and Reclassing. Any suggestions and advice would help, thanks!

Have you read the bored after action review? Right there it will tell you what made a service member competitive for the board that year. Why bother asking people for their speculation, when you can go straight to the source?

As an AGR, you may be stuck because of MTO&E rank structure. You may have to give up that position to get promoted. I don’t have all of the information to give a good answer but you might go to you command and ask about your file. Might not be that you are that bad as someone might have been better. PT, college, NCOERs, etc

put in a conditional release and come to cmf 14....28 out of 29 eligible 14E SSG got picked up on this year E7 board. 75% rate across the whole field.

79V (Career Counselor) is about the same as 79R (Recruiter) in terms of promotions to E7 nearly automatic. However, the bottleneck at E8 is thicker than most other MOS's for that reason. The big difference is that a 79V position is not "detailed" and you will have to make it your primary MOS and probably never get back to supply. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

I have been told that one needs to punch your ticket to promotion by attending: either Drill Sgt School or Recruiting. Now this was an E-6 that told me this! He went to Drill Sgt's School. Recruiting can be a career ender if not successful. If I am not mistaken the reserves AGR Supply MOS is does not have enough personnel to fill the positions.

E-6 is the 92Y “glass ceiling”; every company has a supply Sergeant, so there is a lot of competition. Best thing to to do is focus on your job performance/NCOERs, Supply Excellence Award, and schooling.

My friend, my wife is in the EXACT same boat as you. People around her are promoted when she has ALL the requirements met. Selection board is biased in my opinion, even thinking of IG action but won’t do any good I know... She has been heart broken too many times, moved from unit to unit trying. What advice indeed...

1) SLC and SSD 4
2). Work on bachelors degree in global supply chain management. DeVry university has a good program
3.) support operations course
4). Combined Joint logistics course JKO online
5). Battle staff course
6). Unit movement officer course
7). PEC Battalion supply course
8) Airborne. Air assault. Pathfinder jumpmaster. Repeal master. Ranger
9) increase your PT score
10) additional duties such as sharp and EO
11). Three year recruiting tour
12 ). Three year title 10 tour with NGB
