What symbol from your time in the service is most important to you?

Is it the seal of your military branch? Perhaps a patch from a particular unit or their distinctive unit insignia? For many Marines, I would venture to guess that it is the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor. For me it would have to be my cross sabers, as I was a cav soldier. What is yours?

Air Weather service. A little blurry, but I like the stripes for Senior Airman. Oddly enough, I was one on those who got to the rank of E-4 SGT. But yea, I was at Rhein Main.

Air Force Pilot wings symbolize most of my Air Force career. I worked hard to earn my wings and then worked as an operational pilot and staff officer for the next 16 years. My last flying assignment was as a C-130E instructor pilot in Alaska; even though I was the Ops Group Chief of Current Operations, I still flew at least once a week. The wings symbolized an expert level of knowledge, skills, and abilities in air operations.

In 1968 I walked into the U.S. Army recruiters office and enlisted for three years of active duty to pick my MOS 95B which was military police at that time. After graduating from BCT at Fort Benning I arrived at Fort Gordon for my MP AIT. I actually enjoyed the 8 weeks of MP training and the classroom instruction on military law enforcement. The military police cross pistols with the "assist , protect , defend" motto. The MP arm brassard and duty white hat.

I love the crossed arrows, but I started out as a 13B cannon crew member (crossed cannons), I am also fond of the crossed rifles from my infantry days. I was very fortunate that I was able to make through the "Q" course as a 1LT. I spent almost all of my 20+ working in SOF, I started before I was qualified as a new 2LT working in the Signal Center, great experience. I am nothing special, I just would not quit or go away. I think I came out of it with a great education a few extra knocks and bruises but what an experience. Interesting fact, back then I was not able to wear the Arrows until I had gotten a language rating and finished more schools, crazy. I don't know if they still do that or not.

I have never been in the CAV however, I understand the pride they have a long a rich history in the US. Over the years the CAV has done a lot of very impressive things.

Warrant Officer emblem and 6he arrow head for Special Operations both hold special meaning . The Warrant Office Corp establish on 9 July 1918 so it ties me to the tradition of the cohorts; the Arrow head for 3rd SFG(A) my first assignment as a warrant officer and the best unit i have had the pleasure to serve in .

USAF Munitions and Maintenance Badge - in a job that was considered vital but often seemed thankless, the approval of this badge (1986 or 1987, as I recall) was a welcome recognition for the whole avionics squadron. Amazing how much such a small symbol can mean!
