I live in Indiana with hot, humid summers and probably have a JRTC cycle in my future. I would like a good jungle boot. Everyone who has worn the old green and black ones swears by their comfort. After much reviewing and research, the only true boot in that tradition I can find is the Altama Jungle PX. It appears to be similar to the old jungle boot. I currently have a pair of issued Altamas, and they are fantastic. The PX also has the original Ro-Search Panama sole. I basically want a light, comfortable, fast drying boot. I don't think anyone offers the Saran insoles anymore, but perhaps modern insoles are just as well-drying. Anyone have experience with this boot or have another they would recommend? The ones we have for issue suck. But I have noticed it is the sole. The boot itself looks as if it is sturdy enough. I plan on having mine re soled. Going to put the crape sole on it. I'll have them twek it a little and have down hills added. I did that to a pair of my old green jungles and loved it! Back in the day Hi teks where the thing, great boot. Can't find them anymore. But boots really need to be suited for their environment. I prefer waterproof boots because having wet feet sucks, especially if you go days in the field without relief. But some folks don't like them because they don't breath like other boots do. Pick what works for you and make sure its within reg's. I wore Army issue a lot, had to exchange a time or two to get the proper fit, but once that was done break in was important. I always filled my boots with water, let them soak up, the walk them dry. Now they form to your feet the best. I wore Tanker Boots 95% of my time in the Army.

Before Airborne school I was in Korea. I had Adashi re sole my LEG boots with ripple sole (which was ok for ABN school at the time) and I had him add a layer in between to create external cushion to absorb part of the running pounding. I added a gel sports insert. Yes, this these boots were as good as running shoes.
