I'm the proud son of a Vietnam Veteran (1/11 How). My father completed his AIT (13B) at Fort Sill in 1969.

My father doesn't remember much of his time at Fort Sill. So I'm looking for Vietnam Veterans that are located in Lawton, OK and who were stationed at Fort Sill to gain a better understanding of what life was like there. I'm working on a photographic project that retraces the steps of my father and stories about what the base would be helpful.

I'll be in Lawton/ Fort Sill in late May 2018. If you or anyone you know might be able to help me, please send me a message.

Thank you and thank you to all those that served!

Keith Yahrling I was actually born in Lawton. My Dad was stationed at Fort Sill back in the 60's and then when I joined the military I was living in Minnesota and I got stationed at Fort Sill in the 80's. I will ask my Dad what it was like for him. As for me I had a blast!! But then again it was like I was back home!! A lot of my relatives still live in the Fort Sill area.

Interesting, my Dad and Uncle were there in 1942 for training and commissioning. In Sept I am planning to visit Fort Sil prior to Army at Oklahoma football game. Best wishes on your project.

Thanks for the reply Ken! It is always good to hear from others about family who was stationed at Sill.

Have you been on post before? If not, be sure to check out the museums on post, as well as Geronimo's grave. And if you have time, head out to the Wichita Wildlife Refuge. The refuge shares the northern boundary line with Fort Sill so it is really close.
