An enlisted soldier wasn’t issued a lanyard for her sidearm. An officer locked her heels marched her to the PX and made her buy a lanyard. I think the appropriate action would have been to take her to her unit supply to correct the situation.

We were told in Afghanistan if we got bit by a bat, wash it for 10 minutes in soap and
proceed to the TMC.
I told my snivelly motor sgt that I may or may not have been bitten by a bat. I washed it for 10 minutes and now have a super clean bat, what do you want me to do with it now?
After he quit freaking and calmed down and I explaine it was a joke.
Clean bat, get it?
Sent me to 1sgt to get counseled. 1sgt laughed for days.

On staff with the S-3 shop, 3d Brigade, Advanced Individual Training (AIT) Infantry, when Post HQ pushed a Congressional down to us wanting to know how many quail there were on Fort Jackson. Some member of Congress was trying to decide on which southern military installation he was going to go quail hunting. Don't recall our answer, per se, but I believe we responded with a range of between something like 375 and 400. Never heard back.

While standing in the chow line awaiting my turn to salute the mirror in basic, l took a mini vacation in my mind, when it was my turn to salute, without hesitation I shoved my fingers in my eye, turned and thought "now that's funny " and smiled. I'm 6'5" and this TI who was maybe 5'6" on a good day proceeded to mount my butt as apparently l thought basic was funny. He forcedd me out of line and made me smile until l got to the sign in line, pulled a demerit and sent it to my instructor who nicknamed me smiley through my entire basic training

A PFC(I worked in same building with) being refused service and getting ass chewed out at P/X because shorts only had 2 outside pockets. Shorts also had an inside pocket. To my knowledge, rules stated shorts had to have 3 pockets. Not specifically stating on outside. I was a Corporal, I proceeded to give civilian(former military) an ass chewing back. M.P.'s were called.

I had a corpsman in Kuwait who had fingernails that were too long, and they were a little dirty as well. I was tye senior corpsman and I had a nurse tell me I had to tell the other corpsman that his nails were too long and to trim them. To be fair, it was a bit of a health hazard having long, dirty fingernails in a tent hospital.

I was an aircraft mechanic stationed in Japan. My coworkers were not in the habit of polishing their boots or ironing their uniforms. Our Director of Consolidated Maintenance, a colonel, was driving around the flight line and took notice of how sharp I looked. I was wearing a starched/pressed uniform and spit shined boots. He made a comment to my commanding officer about how sharp I looked and how ratty the rest of the troops looked. The next thing I know my supervisor is trying to get me to sign a letter of counseling for wearing a starched uniform and spit shined boots, lol. I told him I was clearly in compliance with Air Force Regulation 35-10 and that he could shove his letter of counseling where the sun never shines. They ended up having an inspection and writing up and finning several of my fellow troops for no haircut, no polish on boots, and ratty looking uniforms.

Someone had thrown a broken footlocker out and put it beside the dumpster. I fixed it up good enough to throw in he back of my pickup to carry my jumper cables and tools. Coming on to base one night I was stopped by the Gate Guard and told that I had Military gear that was not allowed by me and a report was going to my CO. Result = Page 11 . BTW , I still have that footlocker since 1980.

At the last job I had to make sure everyone had socks/hose on their feet. Mind you, we were in a locked building behind 2 locked doors with absolutely ZERO contact with customers or stakeholders. I also had to check to make sure that pants did not have rivets. Either would warrant a counseling. Both would get you sent home with points.

The most petty thing I saw happen to a soldier was get scolded for wearing his patrol cap outside. But hey... Aren't you supposed to wear the patrol cap outside? Yes you are. Soldier was attending a Change Of Command ceremony in which everyone was directed to wear the beret. During the hour between the rehearsal and the ceremony the soldier removed his baret, put it in a ziplock bag so he wouldn't get it sweaty and dirty before the ceremony. The 1SG saw he had on his patrol cap and asked why didn't he have his baret as ordered. The soldier explained he has it and showed it to the 1SG and informed the 1SG that he is trying to keep it fresh and looking neat for the ceremony. 1SG yelled at him for being different from everyone else and that no one else was wearing a patrol cap and to look around at everyone else and follow the visual example. Just at that moment two SFC were walking by WITHOUT head gear at all. Which is a huge NO. Solder looks back to 1SG and said, "Well ... I can do that if you want me to." 1SG said "Do that!"as he stormed off.

Me. When I worked at Willis Towers Watson my supervisor showed me a way to save me what was taking me 35 minutes a call down to just under 10 ten minutes per call. I was a Medicare Insurance Customer Service Informant. So I would have to read the entire Medicare plan benefits as well as a full 4-6 minute disclaimer. Until one day when my supervisor put her hand my shoulder and explained that I only needed to read those items on my computer screen highlighted in orange. As you might imagine I was so happy and over filled with joy ! Not only did my productivity go up but I had a voice at the end of my shift. So I put my hand on my supervisors should and told her that I loved Her for cutting my workload to a third of what it used to be and how happy I was. Unfortunately I must not have been dealing with humans. As I was sent HR. and reprimanded in front of her and her supervisor. The HR supervisor asked what was I going to do about this serious infraction as it could be construed as sexual harrasment. I laughed and told the HR supervisor I'm not going to change anything except not speak to my supervisor ever again for making such ridiculous complaint about saying thanks I love you for helping me out. (Louis Armstrong said in his song "It"s a wonderful World" people passing by saying how do you do. Aren't they really saying Hey I love you.) I notice you, I see you exist. Isn't that a way of saying I care . What is care? It's of Love. I'm not sorry that I lived you I dont think that love ever hurt anyone until the love stopped.

1 PFC got very drunk over the weekend and went to the hospital as he thought he was violated. Reason was, when he woke up the next day, he found the back of his pants ripped. Turns out, when he got drunk, he ran like crazy for no reason, tripped and ripped his pants (saw and reported by a bystander to the MPs). People eventually caught up to him, finding him laying on the ground. He was carried back to his barracks room. PFC ended up being counseled on binge drinking and public indecency.

Not sure if this would count. Came back from deployment on a Friday. Weekend pass. Come back Monday and my entire detachment is sent to CID. At first they didn't tell us why. Guys with me were panicking, thinking they were being busted for drinking, or *ahem* taking other things. Instead they questioned us one at a time about our unit's bridge-loaders. One was found with smuggled pistols from Iraq. I was questioned and my answer was, "We have bridge-loaders?"

This is a no B/S one. We had free access to a Federal prison at one base I was assigned to.
As part of our duty we could get our uniforms' cleaned and pressed for for free.
As part of some of my additional dutys I delt with some of the inmate's.
One of them informed me about the free service.
My new Squad leader had no clue about this even after I told every ony.
He ripped me a new one for wearing a pressed uniform in the field.
Funny thing after that just about everyone asked me to drop off and pick up the uniforms.
Funny how things work out.
I did not mind doing it for every ony. the prison was on my way home from work.

Had a PFC get her butt handed to her because she was told to look straight forward in the at attention position due to company commander walking into defac. Someone asked her why her water bladder’s cap looked different than everyone else’s. She responded and said I have no idea drill sergeant. She had no idea the company commander was the one who asked the question, mind you that he was standing directly behind her, with a drill sergeant on each side of him. So the only ranks she could see without moving were drill sergeants. She got consulted for two weeks she had to repeat the drill sergeants names each time they randomly approached her as well as they would ask her each time who the company first sergeant was and who the company commander was.

My company commander had me plant plumeria trees, from bare sticks, around the medical clinic where I was stationed. They actually began to grow, and quickly! He retired, and the new commanding officer soon consulted with me. He sarcastically asked how spending my time planting trees was a good use of my skills as a medic. The new PFC to our office asked me if you still salute colors on empty parked vehicles or does the officer need to be present in the vehicle. I asked him what the general order stated, he said it did not in fact say anything about an officer and just mentioned the colors. I couldn't resist playing along.

After chow that day, I got back to the office just in time to see him being chewed out for saluting empty vehicles. I will never forget how hard the whole office was laughing.

Me: the standard dress shoes were rubbing my ankle bones raw and it was getting painful to walk. When I had shore leave I bought a pair of over the ankle boots and the bosun was more than clear that they were non-regulation, then the CPO came around and now we had a three-way argument. Duh! At any event when the dust settled I got to keep the boots until my ankles healed. Took a few months.

I was in group counseling for PTSD, there was a guy crying and sniveling. When asked what it was he was crying about, he said because Michael Jackson had died and it pushed him over. Now, this group therapy was for combat vets and the PTSD that came with combat. Me, and another guy walked out, because we couldn't handle someone who had not been in combat, sniveling about some celebrity that died. We had to promise the nurse who was running it, that we wouldn't hurt ourselves or anyone else.

My boyfriend got hauled in to Mental Health; he was in the middle of a contentious divorce. He was accused of hurting his kids. Of course they hauled me in.
While I was there, they asked me about my certainty of paternity-the kids were very different looking. (How would I know, that was 3 assignments ago?) I assured them the oldest bore a strong resemblance to both his mom as well as his ex. For the life of me, I can’t understand why “are you sure he’s the father?” wasn’t in their findings.

I was assigned to a hospital that is now closed. On one particular night we had our hands full with uniqueness. We had three patients that decided that decided together it was a full moon out. One patient was a double amputee, the second blind and the last was an elderly patient.
We kept the amputee's wheel chair outside her room because she kept escaping at night. On this particular night the amputee kept screaming she was seeing pole cats (skunks), the elderly lady was screaming she was seeing spiders and the blind gentleman disappeared. The amputee couldn't take the pole cats any longer so some how she was able to get her wheelchair and she disappeared, so that night we were scrambling to find them both. We finally found the amputee in another ward's lounge. We we got back with her we put her in the room with the spiders and the spider lady with the pole cats. That left one patient to find. We searched everywhere until the ER called and said they had our patient. Evidently, one of the medics left the keys in the ambulance and our blind patient decided to still it. Moral to the story, watch out for full moons.

I was the one who was consulted. In Iraq I was an HHC commander. My BC came to me and said he had something important for me to do. He rarely even talked to me so I figured it must be important. He asked me to go to the DFAC and get him a case of diet coke. I respectfully explained how that was against the policy, and that I'd be happy to run to the exchange and purchase him a case. He responded that he told me to get him a case of diet coke not tell him the policy. I asked the MSG at the DFAC and he told me the same policy I told my commander. I brought this information back to the BC. His response, "I bet they would have done it for General Chiarelli!" He asked for options, I ended up asking some other folks in the HHC to take a can or two with them each time they went to chow.

While in Iraq, 3 month before we got to return home, I was counseled for not making enough money to allow my wife (now ex wife) to be able to fly to Vegas with her friends for the weekend. Yeah! Even my CO just kept shaking his head while reading this to me. Afterwards I asked him if I could get a raise, to which he laughed and then we both signed the counseling paperwork that stated I had in fact attempted to get a raise.
Somehow my wife was able to get me counseled by my Post Commander while I was in a warzone.

A Marine stopped running in the middle of a physical fitness test and went and pooped in the dugout at the ball field on base. He then continued the run. It was a two part NJP - They thought he lied about the time it took to finish the run and the fact that he pooped in the dugout. During Basic Training we were in line to be paid for the first time. I was at the end of the line and my Training Instructor (TI) told me not to let anyone in our Flight get mixed with our sister Flight. I turned to the first person in their line and asked them to keep an eye on their Flight and not to let anyone mix with ours. I personally counseled a Soldier for consistently spackling a latrine CHU with massive amounts of feces and not flushing adequately.

It was not just a counseling. I also provided a block of instruction on latrine etiquette which involved wiping, courtesy flushes, air freshener use, toilet brush operation, and duration of visits to allow for other participants to defecate.

I was later praised as this issue was corrected and resulted in improved morale since it was a mixed gender facility and the females of the unit had been getting physically ill prior to my intervention.

During the first Class-A inspection after arriving at my unit, I was reprimanded three times for the same issue, I had shown up in a freshly pressed uniform with the enlisted "saucer cap". First, I was accused of wearing a non-regulation uniform. We went to the company command building and I pulled out the uniform regulations and showed that I was actually within regulation. Then it was against company policy, but the 1SGT couldn't produce the policy. Then the Company Commander, a full Colonel, walked in wearing a wrinkled uniform, asking if I had been reprimanded yet. So, I asked if that was the real reason I was getting chewed out, indicating the CO's uniform. Finally got the real reprimand, I had made the CO and a half dozen other officers look bad. Then I got chewed out again for having the audacity to point out that the CO was the one out of uniform. My Section Chief was smiling when I countered the first two charges and was trying not to laugh by the end. Turns out he had a bet with another Section Chief on whether I would stand up to command or tuck tail.

This falls under the silliest category because it definitely wasn't petty. I was working at the Navy Annex and I started to feel really ill, feeling nauseous and having a pain in my gut. I told my boss I needed to get to the ER and felt I could drive myself to the ER at Ft Belvoir. After an examination and xray, the ER doc informed I had FOS. I asked what that was and he said I was "Full of S....". He made me laugh despite my severe discomfort. Fortunately, he gave me some meds that got things moving again. Glad I consulted a professional!

I saw and heard a man (white) ask the doctor if he got a little more suntan, could he pass for being a black man. The doctor laughed and said only if he could punch him in the nose to flatten it. The doctor was black.

While sitting in the doctors office one day, I overheard some lady talking to whom I believe was either her husband or boyfriend stating that she thought she was pregnant because she had got a sliver of wood in her finger and knew she needed to be seen for pregnancy because she didn't feel the way it should feel when one gets a sliver. I heard that and tried my absolute hardest not to laugh!

Walking across the grass. There was a small sign that stated to stay off grass, but this guy didn't see if from the direction he was walking and an upper grade Sargent laid into him for walking on the grass

I got lost with my squad in the forest… during basic training. I was the leader. They sent a Huey up to search for us, …we had found our way onto a road(!), and into a DFAC. Turns out, they’d given me a map from 1934! Didn’t really match up with the current ‘terrain’.

I was the battalion commander’s driver and admin assistant. They gave me some fantastic new ‘modular’ tent system to test during a field exercise. I absolutely destroyed the thing; tearing, puncturing, really messed it up. They were FURIOUS but the counseling showed that I had followed ALL the directions perfectly.

Being consulted about which way to go because the leader of the group didn't listen to instruction. So the whole group didn't challenge the self elected leader, and just followed along. The person that sought clarity had to get the whole group to turn around. Self elected leader "oh I've done this before I know where to go"...has no idea what he's doing.

Colonel interrogating: “Were you the only one in uniform?” …”Were there family members floating on the Zodiacs?” …”Was everyone consuming alcoholic beverages?” …this was such an embarrassment to the USARNG they shut down the unit and gave everyone a reenlistment code ‘RE-4’ (long form DD214), basically a death sentence for any future service like ‘Misconduct, moral or professional dereliction’.

Person drinking possibly contaminated water supposedly developed symptoms, continued to drink the possibly contaminated water, and asked the provider for advice on how to alleviate symptoms. Provider told this person to avoid drinking the possibly contaminated water. Person continued to drink same water from water source and asked provider what to do about symptoms...

I sAw boot Lt. get upset at another Boot Lance Coolie for an “Irish pennant“ in the damn field….during a dagon fire mission, I might add. Yes cleanliness is godliness, but stupid is as stupid does….I mean I think they should have turned the whole fleet around for this one…guess he learned this in OCS. To think how could we ever go into combat with “Irish pennant“ hanging everywhere…Oh good lord we pray for a day where “Irish pennant“ become a Scottish right!

When everyone was worried about Y2K, I was doing IT consulting. We were asked to go to every photo machine (CAT. MRI, etc.). We found that every piece of equipment had a date/time that showed that they were only "stick on's". We replaced them for .98 cents each and our contract called for a flat rate of $200 for each machine we worked on. What a waste of money!!

SSG Lavin While on a training exercise at Fort Benning, Georgia, I had a brown tick, that bored it's way into my abdomen. I reported this to my First Sergeant and no one knew what to do. Then a platoon Sergeant came up to me with a lite cigarette and backed the tick out of me. My First Sergeant and Commander accused me of improper hygiene. For the following three days I had a 2nd Lieutenant follow me around to ensure the ticks behaved themselves. Thank goodness the tick was not a spotted tick. Thanks to the lite cigarette trick the entire tick was removed and executed.

Luckily, all of my Commands were not so A.R. that we had to walk on thin ice. We did have a SgtMaj that didn't like certain policies that the C.O. supported, so the SgtMaj would try to use Marine Corp Tradition to discipline Enlisted he felt were out of line, in his opinion. It was not long into our WestPac deployment that we were without an Active Squadron SgtMaj as the C.O. had had enough.

Getting a sunburn. We all understand that when we raise our right hand, we put our Nation first. Their is no I... So to see a fellow Soldier get a councling for destruction of military property, even tho he was in full battle, Ridiculous. Mind you this was around the time those stress cards started showing up and I made my decision to serve my nation in other ways.

I was outside doing yard work with 5 males. They removed their green shirts, so did I. Within 20 minutes the Sgt. in charge of us came out & told me I had to put my shirt back on. As I was complying, he started to leave. I asked him why the guys didn't have to put their shirts back on. I had the appropriate t-shirt & was wearing the required white bra, why just me? I was told I had to wear my outer green shirt because I was a distraction. True story. It was a hot summer day, the shirt made it very long.

Single parent getting counseled for “absenteeism” during height of pandemic related childcare closures. This, despite ONLY having taken leadership approved leave! Wish it wasn’t so, but it happened to me. There should be stronger guidelines in place, vice ability to pass these out like candy.
