What was the SOP for a typhoon in Vietnam during the war?

As you can see, this question is specific to Vietnam Vets. I'm just curious as to how the extreme weather of a typhoon affected your unit operations and if there was anything that stuck out as odd, a good idea or otherwise notable.

I was back at Camp Evans having a finger injury operated on when Typhoon Hester hit. Wow. No warning. Deal with it. It was the worst Typhoon over there in years. November 1971. Buildings were blowing apart. I felt sorry for my brothers in the Bush. But it probably didn’t matter where you were because of the sideways rain. As far as a SOP, there was none.

MSG Michael Davis-Most of my tour was in the Central Highlands so any Typhoons would have dissipated ,we were struck with some violent weather, high winds, heavy rains on occasion,( not counting the Monsoon season ) don’t really recall an SOP,only we couldn’t rely on resupply by choppers so everyone had to tighten their belts with rations, batteries etc

Good Question. I was assigned to the 20th Engineer BDE (82B) in Long Binh Post north of Saigon during Sept 1968 - Aug 1969. I do not remember any Typhoons but I remember raining hard for days. After I tied down my 3/4 ton truck in the motor pool, we stay in the barracks unless we had guard duty or HQ/BN staff duty. We were in high alert but then, we were always in high alert!
Hope this helped. Hooah
