Third US ARMY is a 3 star HQ with no subordinate units. Millions of dollars were spent with long hours creating shredded paper. It's where morale went to die. The Majority of the Jr officers I knew there got out. The City wasn't bad but when you hate your job it's hard to enjoy it. Honestly I'm surprised I didn't get out then.

The only place worse was deploying to Kuwait with the same unit because it was all the fun of a job you hate that you know doesn't help the effort in any way without any of the drawbacks of going home at the end of the day! Gordon, GA; Ft. My worst assignment was as a Senior Instructor with the 7th BN (PS) 108th REGT 4th BDE (PS) 94th DIV (FS) 80th TC Fort Jackson, SC.

The Soldiers and leaders assigned to and above the 20th / 1149th MP DET (CID) made it the best assignment. We had huge mission accomplishment and great esprit de corps as well as unit integrity from the beginning of our rotation through the end.

The 7th/108th is best summed up by a lack of care or concern for Soldiers, a complete lack of planning or forethought, and a departure from all of the values which make the Army great. While I did everything I could to create and maintain a positive environment around me and the Soldiers to whom I maintained a sphere of influence, in the end, I was just glad to retire and get away from that unit. I loved them all for different reasons but if I had to nail down what made a Command score lower or worse it is Overmanagement/Micromanagement. Adak was isolated wet and cold so they Minimized your off time and had lots of stuff to keep you busy (Unnecessary Inspections) so you wouldn't get cabin fever which was sad because it was a gorgeous island in a stark natural way. The ones I like the Best is where I was given Autonomy which actually was quite a few. CINCPACFLT Staff we were Staff the crème de la crème so they saw no need to manage us. My 3rd command NSGD Sgrove was so small so even as a newly frocked E-5 I was Asst Dept Head. COMSPAWARSYSCOM 6211 Big Command but we were a Small Project so I was functioning as a Division Officer on top of being the Admirals Master at Arms. Great people to work with and a great chain of command. My worst assignment was USS Antietam (CG 54). It was the exact opposite of the other 2. the chain of command didn't care about anybody, people would try to stab you in the back just to get ahead, and my LCPO actually told me once that he would make it his mission in life to bust me down to OS2 (E-5) before he retired.
