Everyone has a favorite assignment location/command, and a worst. What/where/when are yours? What/who made it good or bad? How?

In my personal opinion every assignment is different for everyone of us it's what you make of it for some it might be awesome for some it might be the worst.

SSG Turkezer, very true. Attitudes R Us. However, there are sometimes places where mediocrity is the standard of excellence. Sad, yet true.

I really wouldn't say there was a best/worst.  There are lots that I've learned over the years/assignments.  Now if you are talking about best/worst deployments, then you have a great question!  I can talk about that all day!!

SGM (Join to see) I served in a few CAV assignments throughout my career:11th, 4th, 7th and 16th right before retiring out of Benning...sorry I do not recall the Patterson family story. I helped deactivate the 11th and Downs Barracks back in '93, I have to say though, that was the best 2 years of my career being a member of the Blackhorse!! 1SG (Join to see) I wish that I could make the "Last Patrol", I never had a chance to return to Germany after I left the Blackhorse when we deactivated the Regiment, and would love to see how much things have changed.

SFC William Swartz Jr, I was fortunate enough to spend 1/4th of my career with the 1st Squadron, 74-77 and 79-82. I credit my development as a Soldier and Noncommissioned Officer to that time period as I was promoted to CPL, SGT and SSG there. In case you didn't know. the 2016 Reunion is going to be at Ft. Benning, to include a re-dedication to the Blackhorse monument that recently was shipped from Knox to Benning and is presently in storage. As much as I enjoy returning to Fulda, OP Alpha, seeing old friends, brushing up on my old "banhof Duectch." It is very disappointing to see the changes to the Kasern. Fortunnately, Down Barracks is now being well used, however, for almost 10 yrs it basically sat there like an over grown ghost town. Now there have been many changes on post and lots of activity.

1SG (Join to see) well, if I am still in the are I will definitely have to attend the 2016 Reunion, wouldn't have to worry about a hotel room for me lol! I had heard about Downs being kind of abandoned for a while, but I had also heard they used it to house immigrants for a while as well. Would love to visit Fulda again, it was a great place to be, although I arrived after the Wall came down, and never did a Border Tour, I did some of my best training and tanking the 2 years I was there!

SFC Swartz...minor point of edification for all--one INactivates a unit involving people (which is Activated, Constituted, Mustered); one DEactivates an object, such as a bomb.
Of course, some units are a bomb too.

Ft Drum was a frozen hell on earth. I..HATE.. being cold. That place only has 2 months of spring like weather and they call it summer.
FT Campbell is the place I loved.

SFC Coleman Jr--regret the loss of your truck, probably living in Mexico by now...but then, we have crime in Raleigh-Durham too. The world is chock full of yin and yang.
