I have been on 3 deployments so far. Each one had it's own "theme" song. You had the mid deployment and going home deployment song. I remember in Iraq when the song " kiss me through the phone" came out. What was your favorite deployment song?

Not really my favorite but one of the funniest. Last deployment we had a CPT who had been pulled out of IRR (two weeks before he was supposed to start a new $$$$$$ job at the Pentagon) to be our S2. Needless to say he was not a happy camper the entire deployment. Shortly before we redeployed he set up a delayed delivery email to be sent to the personal email addresses of many of our Senior staff. The email was simply a video of Lily Allen's F*** You. The chorus of which is:

So please don't stay in touch

I was on mess crank duty during my first deployment. Six months, Suez Canal, Straits of Gibraltar, Panama Canal, International Date Line, Equater, Circumnavigate the Globe! Markie, John my protector, and a few others worked in the scullery. Hot work. My favorite song, from Alabama's Greatest Hits was '40 hour week'! Mark played it over and over during our 60+ hour work week. I think I still know the words to every song on that album

I downloaded random music from Limewire before deploying, thinking I'd have plenty of time to discover new music. Interestingly, the first one I played while in the air was the one that stuck with me the most. It touched on each complex emotion I felt but couldn't discribe. “Bridge over troubled water” Simon & Garfunkel was my deployment song 1969, I heard it in San Francisco, Ca during my deployment and then heard it in a shopping mall in Sasebo, Japan while on r&r in Japan.... months later ; it made me feel Not alone and brought me to tears.
I found a gift shop that had a piano and I asked if I could play and figure out the song by Simon & Garfunkel.
They said yes and I learned it, performed it in the shop, they were so happy and glad someone came to play their piano because no one before me ever did.... the shop owner told me in his best English/ Japanese accent, “ many people came to play,......... but you numba’ won”!

When the time came to leave Iraq, everyone was irritated because we were tired, hungry, and hot. There was about 50 of us crammed into the bus made for 30 that parked on the tarmac awaiting our plane. The song "Small Town Girl" by Journey came on and we all stated to sing as if we didn't have a care in the world. That song will forever have meaning for me!

While serving at Ft Meade my husband was deployed to Bosnia (but I didn't know it at the time, thought he was in Germany) and my go to song was "Right Here Waiting for You" by Richard Marx.
Also, my song in the 70's was "Radar Love" by Golden Earring; I was a radar operator in Duluth MN. While deployed to Rhein Mein Germany the song we all listened to and still zooms me back to the Flughaven there is: "Two Tickets to Paradise" by Eddie Money!
