They seemed to go all out. Thanksgiving, for example, was always great!

I have another favorite Army food, but not from a mess hall or a DFAC. This one is from the bowling alleys on post: hamburgers and french fries. I don't know what it is about bowling alley hamburgers and french fries, but they are the tops! Maybe it's the old-fashioned way they make 'em. I remember enjoying that particular meal in the 1970s and I still enjoy it today, at the Fort Meade bowling alley. Is it just me? Loved walking around the Cristkindlmarkt stopping at all the food vendors. Brarwurst, mandeln, spezi. Yum!

I also loved the nachos at our movie theater in Augsburg. Doritos covered with hot dog chili and nacho cheese sauce. Awesome! We were in the Med and our Supply Officer made a deal with a Greek fishing boat to trade diesel fuel for lobsters. One hundred gallon of diesel for about five hundred lobsters. Easy to get tired of lobster when we had no place to store them so had to eat the damned things. Suppo made deals like that all over the Med. He spoke six languages so could wheel and deal with the locals.I was an EN in charge of the diesel fuel so he was always asking me how much we had to trade. Great memories of the Med!
