Actually, our worry of staying alive was always there, but as we settle in, we were comfortable with it, We were then free to focus on the mission, if that makes sense???

Let's see. As a Combat Advisor with the Afghan Border Police in the Kunar, Nangahar Provinces, we were a 6 man team. I prayed that we didn't get into a TIC. I had a team leader who was glory medal hungry, 2 CPT's that were useless, which left me, another SFC and our Doc to carry the weight. And you definitely couldn't give too much mission info the ABP cause didn't know who was "friendly" with the tali.
At Camp Joyce, we were mortared, rocketed and machine gunned regularly during the full moon. Our ABP company up the mountain that shared a crossing point with the PakMil would get attacked about the same as the PakMil helped the Tali. Then we switched the teams up as we got a new Marine Command team. So I got on a much better team with a way better team leader and team. We were based at an old prison near Torkam Gate. During this time, not sure if anyone remembers the Marine "Special Forces" team shot up 14 klicks of area on the main highway near Bati Kote. Yeah stress tension was extremely high going thru that small town. But thankfully nothing happened. It was a fun year. :)

Had no thoughts leaving except for the mission. But when I returned I thought, "Well cheated death again".
