I know there will be technical advances in Infantry squad weapons,just remembering my experiences with the Starlight scope in Vietnam to the current NVGs being used by current Service members,but all the new sexy gizmos cannot take the place of realistic training,complete familiarity with weapon systems and proven reliability of said weapons,my bugaboo that piece of crap M16 we were issued back in the day.

All I can say is what is expected from a weapons system, what happens, and how to shrink the delta should it be laser range finder, ballistic computers, or laser guided weapons.

Budgetary allocation of both time and bullets for more range time. At this point in infantry technology, any further improvements in the rifle will add both significant cost and significant weight. Rather than focusing on the rifle, focus on the rifleman. Range time increases accuracy, firing rate, reliability, and target discretion, all without additional equipment or weight (which has rapidly spun out of control for the basic foot Soldier).
