I got the title of custodial engineer for all my hard work and tons of those stupid college courses I took when I left active duty, my jaw dropped when I reviewed everything and was told that that was all it amounted to, good luck.

Memories, brothers, the ability to work well in a team, leadership training, and a strong dislike for good idea fairies. If you are high speed, you'll also earn a fairly nice rack and bling for your uniform. I also got a bad knee, some interesting scars, and the knowledge that I don't freeze when the bullets fly and the bombs go off. I got to see places I would have never seen (Kuwait, Iraq, Latvia, Germany, Afghanistan, and Kyrgystan), and do things I would have never done (Long Range Marksman, Mk-19, M-2, M-240, M-249, M-203, Armorer, drive a tank, Bradley, Stryker, numerous armored trucks, ski the alps, drive 142 miles per hour on the autobahn, etc.). I earned the knowledge that I was a small part of a small minority that joined the army as an infantryman. That's what I got out of the US Army Infantry.

I really,really would like to give you a clear,concise,informative response to this post Jordan but it would take me a very long time and I'm not that good of a writer,suffice to say I'm 72 years old and the three years I spent as an Infantryman gave me an invaluable foundation for the rest of my life,probably the most important,you never lose if you don't quit.also I have an aversion to "C" rations and rucksacks, the former you don't have to worry about, the latter well .....

Joining the U.S. Army Infantry will grant you what you put into it. Opportunities for leadership are early and often. Transferable skills after you exit the military will include exactly that. It is an opportunity to learn and teach. You will push your body and mind on little sleep and hopefully make good decisions. If you are an intelligent soldier who takes care of himself you will do fine. Good luck on your search.

Depends on where you go, what you unit you'll be in, what tasks you'll perform and whether or not you can put out. Also, the bigger question is what the infantry will get out of you?

A satisfaction at being the Tip of the Spear not some REMF in the Rear with the Gear, who thinks life’s hard when the remote batteries go out for the DVD player. You also will form bonds with other Brothers of the Blue Cord that one just does not seem to get with other civilians. You’ll have close bonds with fellow veterans; but fellow Grunts know the deal and it’s like an unspoken language between us.

You will gain alot of pride, disiplin and true leadership skills that cant be learned in any other MOS in the civilian sector this confidence will set you appart. On a personal side you will learn how to defend yourself and your property better than 98% of other MOS. Soldiers that are not infantry will never recieve the training that you will. Even if they do train on it its normally half assed and they just do it to check the block amd not actually to learn.
Again civilian side you may be limited to security, or goverment and contracting jobs. Infantry is not exactly a transferable job to the civilian world but a majority of jobs will look past that and see that you will more than likely be a harder worker than any civilian.

My recomendation if you are looking to gain job experience reclass after infantry. Like i said most civilains want the hard worker and the leader they know the military will make. You will promote alot faster in the infantry to gain that leadership experience.

whatever you put into it, some cool experiences. You'll probably come out super salty. I've got cool stories to tell, but I'm definitely salty with some Army things. Do I found a new branch where I do less Army stuff. Some of the best people I've ever met are from when I was an infantryman though.

All the things the others have mentioned, brother’s for life, travel to foreign countries I made it to Panama, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Iraq plus travel on leave to other country’s nearby where your stationed overseas and different states in the good ole USA. You will learn that it doesn’t translate to other civilian jobs well unless security related, but if you are squared away and was a leader a lot of jobs will hire you cause they know vets are on time, dependable, and can manage effectively, hell I ended up in the banking industry for 17 yrs cause of my military experience. Later in life comes the bad lower back, bad knees, pain, ptsd and other ailments but It was worth every minute of it. Nothing better than being an 11B.
