If you decide to reclassify to a 68A you need to know that the schoolhouse is no joke. You will have to dedicate a lot of time to studying for the first 2 months or so. The schoolhouse is broke up into 12 courses that last 17 days each. The first 2 courses are the hardest for some people. Its requires a lot of studying but is also repetitive when you get into the higher courses. Its an amazing program that will directly translate to the civilian side with ease. There are so many companies that actively seek military BMETS because of the way the schoolhouse teaches. On National Guard side, during drills you will not exactly be doing a 68A job just because you will not be in a hospital everyday. If you want a really good civilian job without the college work and degree, it is a great choice.
Now because you are going to reclass, you are going to be what they call prior service and not have to stay in the barracks or anything like that. You will be able to live on/off post with your family and be able to go home after final formation everyday. The only thing is that you’ll have to go to PT (obviously) in the morning about 3 times a week. Other then that, because you are prior service, you are going to be just fine!

When you graduate the school house you leave with 72 college credits. I am not sure how that would play in with the education you have right now, but it would definitely be something to look into. I know that there is a school on post but I am not sure if they have a high school. Although San Antonio is a really amazing city and I know that if they did not offer it on post you will definitely find some amazing daycare/education system off the base. SPC(P) (Join to see)

SGT (Join to see) thank you, you have really been so helpful, I’m trying to iron out as many details as I can so that my husband isn’t so scared of relocating. He’s from Arkansas and all his family is here so it’s a terrifying thought for him but I know it’s doable and it’s temporary so it can work!

If you do decide to reclass and you ever need any help, some battle buddies and I designed a program at the schoolhouse that mentors Course 1 and 2 students. Also, I’m always a message away and would gladly help! SPC(P) (Join to see)
