If you love a challenge and don't mind a challenge, you'll be ok! If you can survive there you can survive anywhere! Campbell is the same, minus the airborne mentality. Still both are great for locations and stablization of family but don't expect too much family time. I'm partial to the light and medium towed world so I would never reccomend anyone a heavy unit. It's good for experience to add to your tool bag, but it feel you would fall behind your peers in the light world when it comes to knowledge (mech refuses to do anything degraded). That's just my opinion though. If I had to choose I'd go to 173rd germany, 4-25 alaska, Fort Campbell and Bragg. I am airborne I enjoy jumping. I'll be the first to tell you there's in no relevance for it. Alaska is extremely beautiful and the training opportunities are amazing. Germany is great for that European experience but you must be willing to get up and get out of the barracks or the house of you're married. They are very active with training with multinational units so expect limited family time! Campbell has been voted in the top 3 installations for the last 5 years or so and is located within driving distance to a lot of great places. Last but not least is Bragg, if you're one to put up with a great deal of BS and the last minute hey you, by all means go for it! These places are the elite artillery organizations in my eyes that stem from a great lineage. But when deciding look for what's going to give you the greatest opportunity to advance! At the end of the day, that's what it boils down to!Response by MSG Private RallyPoint Member made Mar 24 at 2018 8:03 PM2018-03-24T20:03:22-04:002018-03-24T20:03:22-04:00SPC Charles Hutchins3480411<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Germany.Response by SPC Charles Hutchins made Mar 25 at 2018 3:08 PM2018-03-25T15:08:26-04:002018-03-25T15:08:26-04:00SPC(P) Private RallyPoint Member3481835<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I well I am heavy I don't really know too much of light. But I also haven't done my job for the last 5 years or so. Plus at this point I'm a little worried that if I go to Germany or Campbell then they will immediately want me to go to airborne or air assualt right when I get there or get it before I go. I don't know if my body can handle that right now. I would like to get to my duty and get a good couple of months of some good structured PT in before I go to either of those schools. Every duty station/piece has pros and cons associated with it. I for one am a light-fighter at heart but have been on every weapon system currently fielded. If you truly want to hone your core competencies, choose a post that has exclusively towed artillery. You’ll learn the sight and degraded operations which will set you apart from your peers later in your career. Commonly, I see mech artillery units prohibited from conducting live fire operations if they’re not fully digital, whereas light units place emphasis on both degraded and digital. <br /><br />Ultimately, it’s your choice and I fully understand and acknowledge that the decision comes down to far more than the job itself. That said, I’d give a couple fingers to end up back at Fort Campbell.
