If the SM gets dismissed from the course due health or administrator issues, he/she might get a second chance. Depending on the branch and the needs of the Army, the SM could continue their career and retire. Checking out and as 1SG Gomez said, courses are not designed that way, if someone fails it is usually an individual decision and intentional or disciplinary. The result is ALWAYS a 1059 having not met course standards if merely for failing from the academic side and that usually will follow your file to every board and action forward. Not a good situation to put one's self in. Response by CW5 Sam R. I will assume that ALC is what use to be called ANCOC. How in the hell can one fail. Put fort a little effort in the areas you know you are weak in. Buds training is tough it’s designed to weed out the weak, but basic training isn’t tough it’s just a hassle, ground weeks at Ft Benning wasn’t hard it’s just a hassle. Unless your in some type of SF program they’re not tough it’s more of a hassle. Of course, they’re not trying to fail anyone, but the basics you know, they’re just building on that, but the bottom end requirements of most classes are very simple. Perhaps you tend to second guess your abilities. Be confident, if you know you are weak in a particular subject matter rehearse, practice, work on it. Above all stop thinking about achieving a passing grade. Your mind set is all wrong. I was an Infantryman, our mindset was not to just pass, one should always seek to maximize everything you do. In my day it was called BNCOC. B stood for basic. I don't know what is covered in "ALC". Perhaps I am all wrong, I am from a different ARMY.
