What would you change about the uniform?

For the ASU I would bring back unit and combat patches, and of course nix the CSIB.<br>

IPFU - go back to the old material on the shorts and shirt. Don't care what color. Shorts feel like wearing plastic and the shirt always smells even if you haven't done PT yet.

ASU - keep the bus driver cap, lose the "everyone is special" beret.

ACUS - let 4 badges be sewn on two stacked, two side by side. It looks ridiculous the way it is now. Especially with a CIB or CAB next to a class 4 badge (not to mention the class 1 badge is under the lapel). I still see CSMs in their official command photos with it wrong instead of the 2 X 2. It just looks more professional.

For once, an easy question:
1. APFU, include sustainable reflective material and do away with belts and vests that do the same thing. (I know that nobody else has ever thought of that!!!)
2. ASU, none.
3. ACU, put in trash can and bring back BDU's. HOOAH!!!

My inability to wear one anymore. I would love to still be serving my country. As for the APFU, get rid of the damn yellow or whatever color reflective belts supply is handing out this week and keep the reflective lettering and markings on the pt jacket and shirts. As for the others I am unfamiliar with them because I have not worn a uniform since the DCU rollout back in 2001. Personally I like the Dress Blues much better than I did the Greens that I used to wear. It is a good thing I won't be wearing a uniform when I am dead and gone. I don't have anything even remotely considered current. I guess they will have to bury me in my DCU's since I no longer have any of my BDU woodlands left.

Is the Forest Green uniform out? If not, I would take it out. I have always HATED it. Army uniforms looked ever so much more dignified and classy when they were the old WWI/WWII Olive Drab. Just my 2 cents from a Navy guy (whose dad is a Battle of the Bulge vet and Silver Star recipient).

This goes back to the whole Gen. Shinseki beret thing.

Personally, I think the Rangers should have kept the black beret and if the rest of the Army absolutely had to get one, the tan beret should have been general issue. But, that's a moot point anymore.

Seems the Army cannot stick with a uniform for longer than ten years or so nowadays before changing it up. Of course, I've been out for ten years so what I think about changing uniforms isn't of any relevancy.

Beards. Please don't feed me the crap about Gas Masks because spec ops have beards and so do many of our allies and they can wear and seal their masks fine. We're all adults we should be able to decide if we want facial hair.

1. Get rid of velcro
2. Get rid of PT belts & reflective vests, everyone hates the safety sash.
3. Why did they switch from combat patch to combat pin for ASU's?
4. Everyone is not special, get rid of the beret and go back to C-caps.

I'd suggest going back to industries for the blind making our uniforms they were stitched together better than the acu's made by prison industries

just two cents on the Army uniform from a Navy guy (dad was Army, granddad was Army, did Army ROTC though):
ACU: either go BDU or OCP, but bring back the Corps insignia (Infantry, MI, JAG, etc.) on the left collar like the BDUs had.
The ooooold Army blues did this, but on the ASUs, for NCOs and soldiers use the Corps colors instead of Cavalry yellow/gold on the pants stripe, the cuff stripe, and if I remember right the rank chevrons (not as sold on that). Back in the day (1870s, 1880s) Infantry NCOs would have a light blue pants stripe, artillery a red, etc. while the Officers had gold (I think, again, its been a while since I saw a painting) but that'd bring a unique esprit de Corps back (if that's desired).
Oh, no berets. PC for the ACU/BDU, saucer for the ASU, garrison cover/saucer for the Class Bs.

Navy, though it may pain others, there's a real maritime heritage of sleeve braid for officers. Now, its only found on dress blues. Somehow, someway, do some sleeve braid (Aviation greens had it in black). The coast guard uses it on their service uniform (short sleeve, half-shoulder boards). Actually looks nautical.
Just a thing, and of course all this is waayyy over my pay grade, so just laugh if it doesn't suit you, but uniform designs tend to go from working to dress (Army and Navy blue seen everyday to now it's the nice dress stuff, British redcoat everyday is now only the ceremonial guards, etc.) Back when they were uniform testing for the Navy enlisted Service Uniform (Peanut Butters), they had a Grey-Blue service type short-sleeve shirt, with the dark navy pants. On the theme of working to dress uniforms, officers had wash working khaki and then service khaki. This Grey-Blue prototype could have done the same for E1-E6, with utilities/working and then service "utilities".

Again, way over my paygrade, and extremely "oh it's be nice if....", so probably nowhere near reality.......

I'd find a material that lasts, is comfortable, and that handle the mission at hand. Once that is done leave it alone! For the class a uniform, I'd like to see the ww2 style.

Call me old school if you must, but I started out in fatigues then switched to BDUs. Our PT uniform was t-shirt, fatigue pants, & combat boots, so I have little patience for "it doesn't breathe" comments. Oh, & BTW, if we weren't going directly to off post housing from work we couldn't leave post wearing fatigues/BDUs. If we were going shopping, to a movie, etc...we needed to change into Khakis. Why wouldn't you want to go into town looking sharp????

1) Given that the APFU just changed, I wouldn't make any further changes. 2) As for the ASU, I would eliminate the shirt and tie and make the jacket more similar in style to the USMC jacket. 3) As for the ASU, I would not make any further changes to the current uniform.

APFU - get rid of that stupid pt belt.

ASU- I agree with a lot of comments about going back to the older styles. I think the current one looks tacky and cheap.

ACU- just get rid of the damn Velcro. Looks unprofessional.

Non redundant ribbons. AFG campaign ribbon implies national defense implies GWOT implies army service ribbon. It’s like wearing every single rank you held along with your current one. It would clean up a lot of clutter on the ribbon racks
