If I was there I would try to help, first verbally trying to help. SGT Kevin Putala, If that didn't work I would try to distract the assaulter and help the woman get away.

Years ago, while stationed at Fort Knox, I witnessed a male beating the crap out of his female companion and I jumped out of my car, ran over and physically intervened. She wound up attacking me while I was adjusting the males behavior. I almost got arrested, but I would do it again...

Hello Jay, unfortunately, domestic disputes are among the most dangerous situations one can become involved in.
For example, during law enforcement training we are taught that the goal is to separate the parties, take them to separate rooms, do not engage one party without someone watching/restraining the other party, and if at all possible stay out of the kitchen (keep the parties out of there as well).
Too often, this situation no matter how frequently the abuser gets out of line, the victim's mentality does not see you as a rescuer, but rather as an aggressor toward their loved on, or as making the situation worse and will come to the attacker's aide against you.
That said, Good on ya for doing the right thing!

I totally agree, these situations are very dangerous and emotionally charged. Intervening does not always have to be physically getting in the middle, but could be as much as verbally addressing the individual and pulling out a cell phone to record the incident or call 911. You always have to consider your personal safety. There are options but totally ignoring it I feel should not be one of them.

It wasn't the smartest thing, but at that moment, I felt that her safety was in real danger. She was a bloody mess, I don't fault her for attacking me, I always prayed that she got out of that situation before it was to late.

Yes, I would help. If it was a prank I would destroy the prankster. No funny.

The problem with these sorts of instruments as of the people were identified in the experiment as being pussies will always be pussies, but I want to get caught up in the experiment will not question the real event for the rest of their lives and possibly not react
