I will be praying for you and your spouse throughout your tenure as POTUS would be the first thing I would say COL Mikel J. Burroughs.
2nd I would encourage the incoming POTUS to seek wise counsel and not just people who agree with your position.
3rd I would encourage the POTUS to develop an integrated National security Strategy soon so that Defense Department can develop a corresponding National Defense Strategy.
4th I would encourage the POTUS to rebuild the faith in America using the bully pulpit
5th I would encourage the POTUS to revisit healthcare and move towards a better balance between government oversight and individual choice. I would urge the health insurance industry be re\deregulated so that policies in one state could be purchased in another. Competition in healthcare and insurance are good things.

I would be most interested in a revised and simplified tax system that is fair. I am interested in paying off our debts and living within our means, but not by giving more to those who don't need it. I would be very interested in improving our education system without taking away from state responsibilities. I would like to know how we unite our American team without having to have a war or attack by a foreign invader. I would like to see a greater emphasis on health and wellness through preventive health care. I think we need less "in your face" discourse and more dialogue. Seems like I would have a bunch of advice and a few questions. I hope whomever the next president is, they accept responsibility, humble themselves as servants on our behalf, be strong and consistent in the face of adversity, and take care of our military.

Donald Trump, don't wing it. You can't be a Fonzie with your foot in your mouth as POTUS. Study up on the issues. Stick to the talking points and don't get baited by gotcha questions by the media. Be coached by your state department and your military advisors. Don't be a Kruschev! Know your subject matter.
If you build a big mexican wall around yourself like you have so far and you don't listen to your advisors then you will be a one-term President.

Hillary Clinton, you have the experience but you can't lie anymore! Listen to VP General Wesley Clark (I wish) and don't be a deceitful Nixon in your administration.

Bernie Sanders, learn your geography and History. Know more about the world not just your Brother's Green Party in England and that Cap and Trade and Climate change are the only factors that cause war or strife in the world.. Don't do the same mistakes England did with Socializing everything like they did after Churchill was voted out in 1945. Don't promise the free education for nothing. Don't be a Jimmy Carter or a Trump and say US troops will have to leave Korea.

Ted Cruz- don't let the extreme Tea Party tail wag you. You need to be a Moderate like Ronald Reagan was and talk to your opponents and made compromises.

Hello Mr. or Ms. President, I'm Staff Sergeant Warren Swan RET. I have two questions for you:
1. When are we coming home? We've shouldered the load for the entire world for 15 years. It's been called the GWOT, OIF, OEF, whatever you want with F, and we're not seeing the results. We know what is put into the news, but you're not talking to an uniformed group. We're the ones charged with making those sound bites we see on the news. When is the EU, AU or any other U going to step up and relieve us? We cannot hide behind the staple of "Words last Superpower" anymore. The world has seen what we really look like. We've been cut to the bone and we're in much need of a relief and replenishment in the ranks. We cannot even trust our battles...I stand corrected Warriors to our left and right anymore being you have no clue if they OR you are on the chopping block to be sent into the civilian workforce suddenly. So we laugh, joke, and do our jobs, but there is an air of distrust that was never there before. What are you beyond the words going to enact in your first 100 days to bring that trust back, and also tell the world we will help you but if you won't assist, we will stay home.
2. What are we coming home to? The Military-Civilian gap is widening. You have a massive influx of vets who had jobs last Monday, are not looking for work the next Monday. These vets are competing with American's who have no real clue as to what they've gone through, and some try to help and it's appreciated, then there are others who have no loyalty to us at all. They don't recognize us as being human let alone a force multiplier in your workforce. I don't think there is a vet anywhere who is asking for a handout, but they are asking for equal chances at work and not having to settle for custodial duties because no one wants or trusts them to be around. We are told we'd be looked after when we pay that check you wrote with our lives on it. You cashed that check. When are you going to hold up your end? Give me more money? Great. I'd rather see it get quality doctors and nurses in the VA hospitals. I'd rather see quality mental health providers or substance and rape counselors. My body and the bodies of thousands of others give you life with no second thoughts, much how Christ did us. You need to help us now. Education benefits, an effective VA, stop talking about ending Sequestration and actually END it. No. More. Excuses. Failed weaponry systems? Get the money back and reinvest into the military. Hold companies who over bill or are fraudulent in their business accountable for it. It's all about you taking care of those who took care of you. We're not Big Anything. We're the only thing between you not being forced to learn a new language and maybe a new religion. Forgetting about us is the WORST thing you could do to yourself and this nation.
3. I know I said two, but this is offensive to me as an American. I swore an oath to THIS nation. I'd go through hell and back for her and not ask for a thing I'm not promised. I find it offensive that a legislator would sit there and take a pledge to support another nation. I'm directly speaking of Israel. We see hordes of politicians get up on a stage and pledge to them. I do not see this happening to any of our other allies who are equally if not more important. I would see it as a great thing if you would refrain from doing this. America supports a diverse array of allies, and none are more important than the other. Our national anthem has no wording that mentions ANY other nation in it, and your oath of office has no mention of any other nation in it. You are an American. I don't care where your family came from, you were born HERE, so your loyalty lies HERE, and any pledge you make, make it to the people in THIS nation. As it should be.

I thank you for your time, and I hope that what I said struck a nerve that you need to get right.

Regardless I would have him/her focus on fixing America.
1. A national ID card for US citizens with a national voter registry with a location ID
I would develops a cost effective way to fix the mass transit infrastructure in cities and across America similar to Europe using only legal American labor.
I would then turn over responsibility of the DMZ to the UN and transfer all US forces back to US installations to support the ever increasing war on terrorism and make America safe.
Request a stop of the immigration of unvetted people regardless of race or religion and actively enforce the US immigration laws on illegals.

Just kidding.

What I would say (no advice, no requests, just my statement to them) would be that our Country officially began its fight for independence in 1775, but the battle started well before then, when men and women decided that living under an oppressive government was far worse than dying for freedom from that government.

Since the American Revolution began, 656109 American troops have died in liberating and protecting this great Nation.

In addition, over 500,000 American servicemen and women have died during from non-battle injuries. At the time of this post, no information was found available for training and peacetime deaths resulting from military service. Combine that, along with the 22 veteran suicides occurring daily in the United States, then that number would top out over 1,500,000.

No take into account the Christopher Stevens's of our Nation, and those who died defending him, along with the countless other emissaries and military deaths which we do not hear about along with deaths from long term illnesses such as agent orange, and that number could very well hit the 2,000,000 mark.

My statement to the President would simply be this:

"Over 2 million Americans have given their lives to present YOU with this opportunity. Some gave their lives willingly, while others were called to action under a draft. Regardless of the reason, they died for you; for this very moment.

'They died for the idea that no man should be held slave by any person or government, and while the United States did fight internally about the freedom and rights of other races, religions, genders and orientations while growing, the underlying theme of the United States has always been to do its best to provide freedoms and liberties, and help other countries in need.

'What you do over the next 4 years will decide if you are trying to help strengthen our Country's security, economy and relations, or if you are trampling over the graves of millions of people who have died to give you this opportunity."

Probably wouldn't make a difference to even say it, but it would definitely make me feel better!

We need more than the POTUS to change things and I don't feel either side will ever be on the same page. We don't have to want the same things, but we do have to keep in mind they work for us and we have moved that around over time. While I certainly agree there are many things I wish our government might do better, I must put National Security at the top. Lets face it, people don't make good decisions when they are fearful or scared! Lets get our act together on ISIS, immigration, vetting, and foreign policy first. Other things I would suggest to the Commander in Chief would be to fix the VA, otherwise the next war we go to might be fought with old ladies and broomsticks! 1) Find a lasting solution to the government shut-down issue! It's embarrassing! We should NOT air our dirty laundry to the world - especially to that magnitude. I'm sure our enemies are laughing at us.

2) The last thing that we should EVER cut is our defense! Of course there are other priorities. But as a former president wisely spoke decades ago: "Speak softly, but carry a big stick." The military is our "big stick." And the people are its most valuable resource. Losing our "big stick" could cost us a lot of fights.

3) If we truly want to reduce our national deficit, then pull in the rocket scientists to design and implement a system that would actually work.

Spend some time talking to some senior NCOs and Field Grade Officers discussing their experiences with each of the phases of military operations (https://stuffiwish.wordpress.com/2010/09/26/six-phases-of-the-continuum-of-military-operations/). Don't just listen to the Generals unless you want opinions that can be colored by politics.

2. Obtain Congressional approval and funding before using military power.

3. Failing the time available to obtain Congressional approval, respect The War Powers Act.

4. Colin Powell was right and Donald Rumsfeld was wrong. Powell said, "You break it, you own it. (Kuwait)" Rumsfeld said "I'll fire any of you that spend any more time on Stabilization Phase planning (Iraq).

I would say.."Forget everything you've known before. Get your SH**T together. You are the president of all parties. No more partisan agenda. Get the country out of the hell hole it has been in the last 8 years. Get us out of wars we have no intention of winning. Protect American interests first, not last. If you don't get a cohesive foreign policy and path forward in your first 30 days, then resign. Be someone that your detractors will respect even if they do not like you. Listen to main street America more than Wall Street America. Revoke the business license of every company that moves production/manufacturing out of the US. No tax incentives or rebates for new companies unless they build in poverty or low income neighborhoods. Close failing schools and open charter magnet schools to provide opportunity for students from low income households who overcome and achieve. Open after school centers for students who need help with reading and homework. If they do not master reading by second grade, they will struggle throughout school.
Take medical students in their residencey and take them out of hospitals and place them in neighborhood clinics to serve those who do not have health insurance under the watchful eye of older doctors. Do the same with nurse practitioners. Within 10 days of taking office, fire every VA Medical administrator, end bonuses for all federal employees. Replace the old guard at the hospitals with former military medical personnel to increase throughput. Being treated by people who have actually served will be a big boost in morale. Fulfill the promises made by America to its veterans." Renew security clearances for every single person serving in government by an independent agency. Get rid of the Czars. No more political appointments of crony ambassadors. Appoint people who actually understand the country they are appointed to serve in. Be strong enough to have people tell you "No". This would be a great start.

The recent campaign encapsulated it all and since neither of you in the major parties addressed it, how will you reverse the national slide into fiscal disaster? Personally, my favorite program is Amtrak Joe's (VP Joe Biden's), High Speed Rail Corridor program and I think they need to finish what was started there. They invested a lot of money and are not even 50% complete. I would like to see them complete at least one Midwest Corridor to at least 110 mph operation in the next two years time frame. Additionally, would like to see the Private Sector encouraged as well to increase it's HSR efforts so that at some point in the future the government can exit the business as much as possible. Carefully watching the Florida HSR Miami to Orlando effort which is a mixed Real Estate Development / HSR play and being done with private sector money. It should start up next year (2017).....we'll see if it is profitable.

Next, would like to see the Economy consistently growing above 3% GDP. Last, would like to see the end strength of the Army, Navy, USAF, and Marines increased. In my view the Active Army should be at 600,000 minimum or it's current set of obligations cut back. If I had to pick one obligation that we should have eliminated years ago.....it's MFO duty in the Middle East.

I would say- I don't know your policies much yet - you don't seem to either. And some of your rhetoric is questionable at best.

But there's a lot I think I could get behind if you do it the right way...if you focus on building bridges like you say- not those walls. There's a lot to be hopeful for. I would simply walk up and hand him a piece of paper and tell him to read it. This it what it would say:

As a Christian nation we have an obligation to defend those who cannot defend themselves and help those who cannot help themselves. The operative word however is "cannot" not "will not". Also, keep in mind that the world is a multi-cultural environment and not all cultures move at the same pace. Steady pressure will win the race much more easily than radical deployment of even the right answer. We can take a lot of clues from President Reagan's style without having to emulate his every decision. May God bless our President, our country, and our people.
