Promotion boards and Soldier of the Quarter type boards usually have some questions that are open ended. These questions are often trying to gauge the Soldiers use of Army Values, ethics or leadership ability. What kind of open ended questions would you expect to see in a board and whats your best strategy for answering them?

Bonus question: How much of a board should be memory type questions and how much should be open ended?

"What does A-S-D-F-G-H-J-K-L stand for?" I was an admin clerk on BN Marine of the Quarter Board where the top finisher always was promoted and was so full of BST/EST knowledge I completely blanked out...the Combat Engineer First Sergeants had a good laugh at my expense as they sat there "air typing". I was meritoriously promoted regardless...it was definitely a composure question.
