I've heard lots of stories of people being helped by DAV, and I became a life member when I heard that while serving. When I got out, and needed help with my VA claim, I went to DAV. That's where it all turned bad... DAV service officers in Alaska are worthless. Screwed me over badly. Couldn't even spell my name correctly on the paperwork. The central records office was so concerned I was being frauded, they called me. Wrong SSN, wrong service dates, misspelled name....the list of basic incompetent errors was long. IN SHORT...be careful who you trust. Not every DAV office is the same. Alaska has a lot of problems.

Awesome organization. Dad was medically retired after 27.5 years on army having served in WW2, Korea and Vietnam. He restarted the local chapter in Junction City, KS. He served as state commander for 6 years before passing in 1976. My mother served as State Commander of DAV womens auxiliary for 22 years as they kept reelecting her has no one else would run for. She then supported and volunteered at the DAV store in Junction City up until she passed in 2014. We donated half the goods and furniture to the DAV story to help the less fortunate families of active and former soldiers. It is an outstanding organization.
