I've not been hired by a "Veteran Friendly" company yet. I applied to more than a few.

I would say many 'think' they are. Many have the good 'intentions' of being... but most fall short. Then there are those who are just trying to get the tax breaks associated with being labeled a 'Veteran Friendly" business... But I have actually seen Veteran owned business that are less Veteran friendly than non-Vet Owned. So it is just a another label use it as gauge but not as a standard.

I have a hard time answering this question. My company says it is very veteran/military friendly, but when you dig deeper, it appears they are only veteran/military friendly when it will lead to good PR for them.
One guy was deployed & they showered him w/ praise because he completed a bunch of insurance designations while he was sitting in a tent in the ME. While another vet, who's husband is getting deployed soon, was flat out told she could not get consideration for a more favorable shift in order to alleviate any childcare costs while husband is deployed.

I have worked for many companies. One man, the owner and president of the company said he was vet friendly and that he allowed reservists time of to perform their military duties. He did not pay for that time just did the minimum that the law requires give the time off.

Oh, I worked for him from July to November one year.

Another company paid the difference between my reserve pay and my regular pay, and a third paid me full wages for the time I was on reserve duty.

In the case of my company yes. They are run ng between 40-45 %. Very good Benes and the ability to earn 70k+.

This is a good question and a difficult one to answer with a simple yes or no. I think that companies want to help out, offer jobs, and generally be supportive of the veteran community but they seem to fall short of the mark. We are a tax write off if hired within the first three years is separating. I wonder how supportive they would be if that credit was taken away. They also don't fully understand all that we do and rely on the MOS conversion tool to determine if we are qualified. They love to announce the number of vet hires they had in a year but offer no stats of the point of entry. How many vets only qualified for an entry level job based on their understanding what we are qualified for based on the MOS converter. Yes, many want to help but they just don't understand what many of us can bring to the table or how to use us. I want more then a job to see that commitment. I want to see them invest in training and teaching through the transition. Really invest in the veteran community. I have applied to a number of veteran friendly companies for position that I feel that I am qualified for and have som much as received a follow up notification let alone a call. All that we are asking for is an opportunity to prove ourselves.
