When did Americans become so whiny?

Seriously, this whole "but he said this and that hurts my feelings" feel that I am getting from the Americans these days are getting on my last darn nerve.

Are the American People NOT allowed to take up for a cop anymore? Has that become against the law?

WHEN did the Americans start becoming SO whiny? No one can say anything anymore, or have an opinion anymore, not without the constant badgering of someone whose wittle feewings have gotten hurt.

It is becoming out right UN-Constitutional! Firing teachers, police officers, a front desk clerk for expressing their feelings regarding subjects like the wittle pool party where kiddos were acting a damn fool. No, I don't think the gun should have been pulled out, I don't think that the one police officer acted accordingly, but why can't people have an different opinion about the situation without fear of the repercussions like getting fired or being threatened?? I honestly don't give a rats if you have another opinion. It wouldn't be America if you did. It would be something like N. Korea. Fo Realz! --------------->INSANE

SGT Private RallyPoint Member, that sentiment has been going on a long time. I've told the story of me at the Detroit riots in 1967. Three boys were murdered right in front of us by the police chief and his officers. I've tried for years to bring it to someone's attention who will look into it. Everyone always says it's been too long, or can you find anymore witnesses, things like that. Our PL was with them. He came back to us and told us, we didn't see anything, we didn't hear anything, and to keep our Fn mouths shut. After I finished with the Army I began trying to find out what I could do. Nobody wants to get involved. I told the guys in my PTSD group, and they said I may be putting my life in danger. I don't care about that. I keep thinking about those boy's parents not knowing what really happened. The website lists them as having been in a gunfight at a motel and killed by the police. Things aren't much different today. Nobody wants to get involved and if they do they get the axe or sued. IMHO

It's a pendulum swing. It used to be you could say whatever the hell you wanted without regard to the damage those words did to others. We realized that was wrong, so the obvious, rational response was to hyper-analyze every little damn thing people say for "micro-aggressions" or hidden bigotry.

It'll swing back the other way eventually. I think it's already happening.

That said, if you work in public education, it's probably just a good idea to keep your mouth shut. School districts are historically intolerant of any controversy, no matter how innocuous or far in the past.

All I have to say is if something I say offends another person in any way they have 2 options: 1) Get over it & don't expect an apology if I say it I believe it. 2) Stay the hell away from me, I am obviously too "real" for you to deal with. Either way the final choice is theirs, crying and whining about something gets you nowhere until you get off of your ass and fix the problem.

In this case the questions now become: Are you part of the problem? if you are fix yourself. Are you part of the solution? if you are keep fighting the good fight. If you choose not to decide which side of the equation you are on you have still made a choice and in this case you become part of the problem.

It scares the H double hockey sticks out of me but I believe that in the near future (possibly after the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement is passed) we (the United States) will have rules and/or laws against speech that makes someone else feel uncomfortable and guess what? That pretty much includes anyone whose views don’t fit prevailing group think.

Between the crusade for politically correct and and the pillars of a certain view/agenda (which I won't name because they would be too easily offended) we have become a nation of perpetual children on the playground. We teach victimization over defense and when you defend yourself you are labeled violent. We teach unconditional acceptance for EVERYTHING and when you don't you are labeled. We teach that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, unless it goes against the aforementioned view and then you are blanket branded a bigot.

The self-entitlement has run rampant after a generation of believing kids shouldn't be spanked, everyone gets a trophy, and you're perfect the way you are. That's why there are still people pushing 30 living in Mom's basement while their degree in Women's Studies or 12th century English Lit hangs on the wall. No one made them do something contributory to society or taught them how to lose before they entered the real world. The only place people care about your feelings is on the internet!

One problem is that being offended by something is being used as an excuse to shut down discussion on the matter. That, I think, is the problem. It is more important to get to the root cause of why something is offensive, and both sides of the issue need to be ready to concede some or all of their argument as the "offense" is analyzed.

But lately, taking offense is being used as a sort of gag order.

I also take anything from Fox News with a grain of salt. Or a bag of salt. Okay, hell, an entire salt lick. There's doubtlessly more to the story.

Well, I kind of see both sides to this.

First, when watching the video of the officer's handling of the situation I came to the personal conclusion that he handled the situation unprofessionally and needed to find a different profession. That said, I wouldn't want anyone who thinks "breaking up a fight between children with a gun is a good idea" in the position of principal with my kids involved, and I too would call for his resignation (I've had dealings with educators who's actions led me to the opinion that they needed to find a different profession).

This stems from my opinion that Doctors, Police, Clergy, and Educators need to be *called* to that profession, it's not just a job, and the stakes are too high for someone mediocre to hold that responsibility.

On the other hand I'm a huge fan of the Evelyn Beatrice Hall quote:
“I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”

I believe dissenting opinion is the cornerstone to a healthy democracy, and thoughtful listening is a responsibility of all citizens. However, modern technology has given a tall soapbox and a loud speaker to some real idiots... and "we the people" sometimes seem to have forgotten the fine art of saying "Bless your heart" and walking away.

It isn't necessarily a new phenomena, Mark Twain said "'Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference", and even Proverbs 26:4 says "Don't answer the foolish arguments of fools, or you will become as foolish as they are.", but again, social media lends SUCH a loud voice that sometimes its difficult to avoid being sucked in.

I'm going to say July 4th 1776. However, I think it probably goes back at least a few years before the Continental Congress. In other words, we've always been whiny.

Now, the modern Political Correctness nonsense is a result of the "progressive liberal" belief that if you say something a liberal disagrees with or simply dislikes, they can literally or figuratively stone you to death. It's strictly up to the wronged liberal to decide which is punishment appropriate. The old nursery rhyme "Sticks and stones will break my bones: But words will never hurt me" has been replaced by the concept of "hate speech"," trigger words", and "safe environments".

What amazes me is that the consequences do not have to be even minimally justified by the "crime". You tweet something I don't like and you should lose your job, your house, your car and your kids need to go on welfare.

Simply, in my view, Americans in today's society--at least the Political Correct crowd--are whiny because of a generational gap in needed discipline, consistency, and elevated morals. I mean this post is basically whining, the only difference is its aimed at the opinions you disagree with. Its totally OK to stand up for cops but its also totally OK to ask cops to be better at their jobs, if one is whining the other one is as well. Seems like its the last profession on earth where making a mistake that costs a human life is acceptable and justified. Everyone makes mistakes, its just part of life. When I mess up at my job someone's insurance claim may get jacked up and the customer could get pissed and leave, when a cop makes a mistake someone could die... I would be fired in a heart beat, but the cop (historically) wont be.

Probably 2 generations ago set it up- few in the Military- protest against everything, free Love, smoke dope, drop out. Uncle Sam started paying folks good money to stay home, have kids, not work. Sue folks for not being smart enough to realize Hot coffee is HOT!.Schools started more liberal teaching- drop social studies, etc. This generation- has to have a car and the newest cell phone- few work at anything, time out cards, stress cards, yet have never been taught responsibility- their rights ( but don't know the difference between that and privileges) which they think trump everybody's else's rights. Now we have teenagers- who don't know what type of gov't we have, don't know who won the Civil War, who was on our side in WWII, can't find nations on the map- let the frat buddies die of alcohol poisoning in front of them, have kids or abortions at the age of 16 or younger, eat Tide Pods and snort condoms- going to tell the Nation how to run the Gov't! Same kids admitting to bullying their classmates "cause they were different and deserved it, but scream when same kid kills 17 of them, or that they will have to have clear book bags for safety. Are not worried that 14 of the commit suicide everyday, most due to this type bullying. Oh, 1.66 per day are charged with murder and 7.52 per day are charged with forcible rape. Aren't they flippin special!
