I wanted 84B but the school was closed they were moving. After 3 years I reuped for 84B and retired as a 25V3H. Best job ever. Assuming nothing has changed with 30th AG and you have a 11X contract...it all depends on what&#39;s needed when you get picked up and start basic. They&#39;ll tell you soon enough. <br /><br />Get good at pushups. The Army is on easy mode when you can bump out 75 pushups with no problems. If the company that’s picking you up trains mortarmen, you’ll be an 11C. If they don’t you’ll be an 11B. It’s just based on when you finish your in processing and issue at reception and what company is picking trainees up when it’s your turn to head to a training unit. No idea, I just got told I was an 11C congrats now do push-ups. Either way in my 4.5 years of active duty I did plenty of mortar fire missions and plenty of standard infantry patrols. Just know it&#39;s out of your hands and make the most of it either way. The instructors called out a bunch of names (mine being one of them) and told us we were heavy weapons. That’s the first time I knew. If I remember correctly it was half way through the actual Infantry AIT portion when we were told you guys are staying 11B and you guys are now going to go though 11C school. Either way I have seen this happen. We got an 5&#39;0 tall 11B in our unit that got assigned to the mortar section and became an 11C. Good luck and suck it up. Basic training is a game / learning experience. But I prevailed and enlisted as 11B10. I chose my MOS. But that was in 1980. Interesting note, in 1983 when the Bradley came to Germany we had to sign an MOS change from 11B to 11M. If you didn&#39;t want to go Mech (airborne and ranger qualified didn&#39;t) they would reassign you. Unlike artillery, 11C&#39;s create fire direction specialists out of hyde. Artillery has a totally separate MOS for fire direction. Ord . When I got to Benning we were handed different paperwork that said 11 xray. The Drills told us not to worry because we were going to be Infantryman . During AIT the Drills asked if anyone wanted to be 11C or 11M ( i think that is a tow gunner) No one volunteered so the Drill said &quot;fuck it call so and so batt tell them they have to produce some. I am going to make me some hard ass motherfuckers. &quot; None of us had to go 11C or 11M. Just understand this was 25 years ago and things have changed. Hope this helps. No designation. You&#39;re just a grunt. <br />Now, come basic graduation and either before graduation or after you come back from your &quot;weekend liberty&quot; they will inform you which designation you are. <br />Most platoons in my unit were11B, my platoon was 11C. If they still have OSUT (one station unit training) duty stations/basic training. Div. as a 11X then asigned as 11B. Then in 93 my Orders for Sgt got posted all of a sudden I was a 11M20... WTF, the Army does what it wants for 11 series. Even if it is in writing.
