When did you use the foam elbow and knee pad inserts in UCP ACU's?

I used the elbow pad and knee pad inserts on my first deployment. As a .50 gunner on a HMMWV, MaxxPro, and Caiman, they saved me from a lot of bumps, bruises, and cuts.

Only time I used them was to put in between my pants and hips during the rappelling phase of Air Assault. Mostly useless, but for those three days they're worth their weight in gold!

Never! hahaha, those things are absolutely useless. They are a b**** and a half to put into their pockets and they make the uniform look and feel horrible. Throw them in a bag and leave them there, only bringing them out for required layouts. If you need elbow or knee pads for any practical use then use the real ones that they issue you.

Can't say about ACUs at all, because I never wore them.
I forget about when the Army started issuing knee and elbow pads, but one thing I do remember, I never wore them and hated it because I had to pack them in my ruck, where they took up entirely too much room (couldn't complain about the weight) when I could have used the space to pack something else.

Only on deployment, I didn't like the bulk of the knee and elbow pads, and the foam inserts were better than nothing.

Only the foam knee pad inserts since I hated the actual combat knee pads.

I used them to pad my computer when shopping in a tough box for deployments. Does that count?

I tried them once or twice and decided they were about useless, so they rode around in my rucksack after that.
