When ETSing from OCONUS, are you allowed to take PTDY with terminal leave?

Doesn't look like you're eligible.

Check out AR 600-8-10, paragraph 5–35. "Rules to notify, counsel, and request permissive temporary duty or excess leave together with separation." It specifically states that the only people authorized transition PTDY are those soldiers who are:

-being involuntarily separated
-retiring from active duty
-separating under the Voluntarily Separation Incentive (VSI) program
-separating under the Special Separation Benefit (SSB) program

Looks like people doing a normal ETS aren't eligible. I have heard of commands allowing this, but the reg doesn't appear to allow them to do so. This came up as an issue a number of years ago when I was at Fort Campbell in the 101st. The division HQ realized that subordinate commanders had been mistakenly authorizing transition PTDY for soldiers who were separating under a normal ETS. They immediately sent out a directive clarifying that commanders couldn't authorize it under those circumstances (so they stopped).

I ETSed out of Germany and didn't get it. If it is technically allowed or not, I do not know.
