When should I be promoted to Specialist?

When should i get promoted to SPC?
I’ve been in for a little over 2 years. I’m green on my Medical i have a passing pt test and no negitive counselings or Article 15’s. My last promotion to PFC was more than 6 months ago. Who should i talk to about this?

Wow, 2 years and still E3? I am really surprised. In 1968 I started basic training on 23 Mar 1968 and by 23 Oct 1968 I was E-4. I think during the Vietnam era rank was much easier to attain. Good Luck to you.

Sometimes things take longer in the USAR. Use the NCO Support Channel and ask if you can speak to the Unit Administrator about it. If you're doing all the right things, you shouldn't have any problems.

Should? You get promoted when you have shown the potential to work in the next rank. If it's automatic, then you should research the TIG/TIS requirements for the next rank

Task: Processing Enlisted Promotions to Private E–2, Private First Class, and Specialist, page 14 Rules • 2–3, page 14 Steps • 2–4, page 15
I want to empower you to read, and research the regulation above and your answer is right there. Please ensure you speak with your First Line Leader, once you find the answer for further guidance. E1-E4 Promotions are automatic, but you also have to earn it, or your Commander can and will delay it, if you demonstrate otherwise of course you should be counseled on the reason, should this be the case, but read the regulation first.

Well if you got promoted to PFC (1 year TIS) was 6 months ago. Which would put you at 18 months TIS and 6 months TIG. If you don’t get a waiver from your command team. Then at 24 months TIS and 12 months TIG, you’ll be promoted to SPC when promotion orders are presented.

I would recommend becoming familiar with the regulation AR 600-8-19. This regulation will give you details on TIG/TIS with and without a waiver. It’s best to have an understanding of the regulation and approach you First Line leader with this knowledge from a source rather than no source or “RallyPoint” being your reference. My first line leader asked me right away when I came to the unit when was I eligible to be promoted with a waiver and I knew right off the bat my waiver date and without a waiver. I like to encourage other soldiers to know that information. HOWEVER, just because you meet TIG/TIS or a waiver and they are automatic you should still show that you a deserving soldier. Your great with no trouble but be sure to be involved. Take part in cleaning up after training, after events... just be actively involved. I was like that from day one and they understood that I had a purpose to be here and earn each promotion. a soldier who is in great standing but does not contribute shows that they only want to climb through ranks and not earn it.
